Abstract

A body support structure includes a shell having a central region, an outer peripheral region spaced from the central region, and at least one array extending between the central region and the outer peripheral region. The at least one array includes a plurality of spaced apart support members and at least one connector connecting adjacent support members within each array. The support members of the at least one array are progressively divided between the central portion and the outer peripheral edge.

Claims (22)

1. A body support structure comprising:

a shell comprising a central region, an outer peripheral region spaced from the central region, and at least one array extending between the central region and the outer peripheral region, wherein the at least one array comprises a plurality of spaced apart support members and at least one connector connecting adjacent support members within each array, wherein the support members of the at least one array are progressively divided between the central region and the outer peripheral region such that the at least one array comprises a first number of support members adjacent the central region and a second number of support members adjacent the outer peripheral region, wherein the second number is greater than the first number.

2. The body support structure of claim 1 wherein the first number is one.

3. The body support structure of claim 2 wherein the second number is sixteen.

4. The body support structure of claim 1 wherein the support members are progressively bifurcated between the central region and the outer peripheral region.

5. The body support structure of claim 1 wherein the support members are progressively divided by a number greater than two.

6. The body support structure of claim 1 wherein an outer side edge of at least one of the support members is connected to a plurality of inner side edges of a plurality of adjacent support members.

7. The body support structure of claim 6 wherein an outer side edge of at least one of the support members is connected to a single inner side edge of an adjacent support member.

8. The body support structure of claim 1 wherein the central region comprises a second plurality of spaced apart support members and at least one connector connecting adjacent support members within the central region.

9. The body support structure of claim 1 wherein the at least one array comprises a first array, and further comprising a second array comprising a plurality of spaced apart support members and at least one connector connecting adjacent support members within each array, wherein the support members of the second array comprises a third number of support members adjacent the central region and a fourth number of support members adjacent the peripheral region, wherein the third number is the same as the fourth number.

10. The body support structure of claim 1 wherein each of the at least one connectors comprises a base portion underlying at least three adjacent support members, and at least three legs connecting the base portion and the at least three adjacent support members.

11. A body support structure comprising:

a shell comprising a central region, an outer peripheral region spaced from the central region, and at least one array extending between the central region and the outer peripheral region, wherein the at least one array comprises a plurality of spaced apart columns of support members positioned between the central region and the outer peripheral region, wherein at least one connector connects adjacent support members within each array, wherein at least some of the plurality of columns have different numbers of support members than at least some of the other ones of the plurality of columns.

12. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein at least one of the plurality of columns comprises a single support member.

13. The body support structure of claim 12 wherein at least one of the plurality of columns has sixteen support members.

14. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein at least some of the plurality of columns have twice as many support members as an adjacent column.

15. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein at least some of the plurality of columns have more than twice as many support members as an adjacent column.

16. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein an outer side edge of at least one of the support members in one of the columns is connected to a plurality of inner side edges of a plurality of support members in an adjacent column.

17. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein an outer side edge of at least one of the support members in one of the columns is connected to a single inner side edge of a support member in an adjacent column.

18. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein the central region comprises a plurality of spaced apart support members and at least one connector connecting adjacent support members within the central region.

19. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein the at least one array comprises a first array, and further comprising a second array comprising a second plurality of spaced apart columns of support members positioned between the central region and the outer peripheral region, wherein at least one connector connects adjacent support members within each array, wherein each of the columns in the second plurality have the same number of support members.

20. The body support structure of claim 11 wherein each of the at least one connectors comprises a base portion underlying at least three adjacent support members, and at least three legs connecting the base portion and the at least three adjacent support members.
