Abstract

One or more computing devices, systems, and/or methods for hosting virtual chat rooms of a chat room are provided. For example, users (e.g., 3,000 users) may access video interfaces, hosting a video, and chat room interfaces associated with a chat room for the video (e.g., users may access a news website providing a live stream of a current event along with a chat room for discussing the live stream). Signals of the users (e.g., a user location, age, account profile information, prior chat room message behavior, etc.) are evaluated to identify user properties (e.g., the user is an active participant within chat rooms). The chat room may be sharded into a set of virtual chat rooms into which users are assigned based upon the user properties (e.g., 300 virtual chat rooms of 100 users each). In this way, users may have more meaningful interactions within the smaller virtual chat rooms.

Claims (81)

1. A method, comprising:

identifying a first user accessing a room of a service providing:

a video interface presenting a live stream of an event; and

a communication interface configured to facilitate communication between a plurality of users in the room;

identifying a second user accessing the room of the service providing the video interface and the communication interface;

assigning a third user to the room based upon user properties, wherein the user properties correspond to at least one of social network data indicative of an image posted by the third user or one or more messages written by one or more users; and

providing, for concurrent display, on a first computing device of the first user, a second computing device of the second user and a third computing device of the third user:

at least some of the live stream of the event in the video interface of the service;

first content, received from the first user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the service; and

second content, received from the second user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the service.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

assigning the first user and the second user to the same communication interface.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

receiving updated first content from the first user; and

providing the updated first content for display in the communication interface of the service.

4. The method of claim 3 , comprising:

receiving updated second content from the second user; and

providing the updated second content for display in the communication interface of the service.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the updated first content, the updated second content, and at least some of the live stream of the event are provided, for concurrent display, on the first computing device and the second computing device.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

identifying a fourth user accessing the service providing the video interface and the communication interface.

7. The method of claim 6 , comprising:

providing, for concurrent display, on the first computing device, the second computing device, and a third computing device of the fourth user:

at least some of the live stream of the event in the video interface of the service;

updated first content, received from the first user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the service;

updated second content, received from the second user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the service; and

third content, received from the fourth user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the service.

8. A computer device comprising:

a processor; and

memory comprising processor-executable instructions that when executed by the processor cause performance of operations, the operations comprising:

identifying a first user accessing a room of a webpage comprising:

a video interface presenting a live stream of an event; and

a communication interface configured to facilitate communication between a plurality of users in the room;

identifying a second user accessing the room of the webpage comprising the video interface and the communication interface;

assigning a third user to the room based upon user properties of the third user, wherein the user properties correspond to social network data indicative of an image posted by the third user; and

providing, for concurrent display, on a first computing device of the first user, a second computing device of the second user and a third computing device of the third user:

at least some of the live stream of the event in the video interface of the webpage;

first content, received from the first user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the webpage; and

second content, received from the second user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the webpage.

9. The computer device of claim 8 , the operations comprising:

assigning the first user and the second user to the same communication interface.

10. The computer device of claim 8 , the operations comprising:

receiving updated first content from the first user; and

providing the updated first content for display in the communication interface of the webpage.

11. The computer device of claim 10 , the operations comprising:

receiving updated second content from the second user; and

providing the updated second content for display in the communication interface of the webpage.

12. The computer device of claim 11 , wherein the updated first content, the updated second content, and at least some of the live stream of the event are provided, for concurrent display, on the first computing device and the second computing device.

13. The computer device of claim 8 , the operations comprising:

identifying a fourth user accessing the webpage comprising the video interface and the communication interface.

14. The computer device of claim 13 , the operations comprising:

providing, for concurrent display, on the first computing device, the second computing device, and a third computing device of the fourth user:

at least some of the live stream of the event in the video interface of the webpage;

updated first content, received from the first user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the webpage;

updated second content, received from the second user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the webpage; and

third content, received from the fourth user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of the webpage.

15. A non-transitory machine readable medium having stored thereon processor-executable instructions that when executed cause performance of operations, the operations comprising:

identifying a first user accessing a room of at least one of a service providing or a webpage comprising:

a video interface presenting a live stream of an event; and

a communication interface configured to facilitate communication between a plurality of users in the room;

assigning, based upon one or more messages written by one or more users, a second user to the room of at least one of the service providing or the webpage comprising the video interface and the communication interface; and

providing, for concurrent display, on a first computing device of the first user and a second computing device of the second user:

at least some of the live stream of the event in the video interface of at least one of the service or the webpage;

first content, received from the first user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of at least one of the service or the webpage; and

second content, received from the second user during the live stream of the event, in the communication interface of at least one of the service or the webpage.

16. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 15 , comprising:

assigning the first user and the second user to the same communication interface.

17. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 15 , comprising:

receiving updated first content from the first user; and

providing the updated first content for display in the communication interface of at least one of the service or the webpage.

18. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 17 , comprising:

receiving updated second content from the second user; and

providing the updated second content for display in the communication interface of at least one of the service or the webpage.

19. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the updated first content, the updated second content, and at least some of the live stream of the event are provided, for concurrent display, on the first computing device and the second computing device.

20. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 15 , comprising:

identifying a third user accessing at least one of the service providing or the webpage comprising the video interface and the communication interface; and

providing, for concurrent display, on the first computing device, the second computing device, and a third computing device of the third user:
