Abstract

A method comprises displaying visual representations of a plurality of product alternatives each including at least one attribute variant to a respondent, receiving from the respondent an indication of a preferred one of the plurality of product alternatives, transmitting a request to the respondent to identify at least one attribute variant of a non-preferred product alternative that is preferred by the respondent to the corresponding attribute variant of the preferred one of the plurality of product alternatives and receiving a response from the respondent identifying at least one attribute variant of a non-preferred product alternative that is preferred by the respondent to the corresponding attribute variant of the preferred one of the plurality of product alternatives.

Claims (40)

1. A tangible computer readable storage device or storage disk comprising instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to at least:

identify a first product alternative as a preferred product alternative relative to a second product alternative and a third product alternative, the first product alternative including a first variant of an attribute, the second product alternative including a second variant of the attribute, and the third product alternative including a third variant of the attribute;

select the second variant or the third variant as a preferred variant; and

generate a fourth product alternative based on the first product alternative and the preferred variant, the selection of the preferred variant to prevent inclusion of one or more of a non-preferred variant or an unpermitted variant in the fourth product alternative.

The computer readable storage device or storage disk of claim 1 , wherein the first variant is associated with a first performance level indicative of a first degree of user preference for the first variant, the second variant is associated with a second performance level indicative of a second degree of user preference for the second variant, the third variant is associated with a third performance level indicative of a third degree of user preference for the third variant and the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to select the second variant or the third variant as the preferred variant based on the first performance level, the second performance level, and the third performance level.

3. The computer readable storage device or storage disk of claim 2 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to identify the first variant as the non-preferred variant based on the first performance level for the first variant.

4. The computer readable storage device or storage disk of claim 1 , wherein the fourth product alternative includes the preferred variant.

5. The computer readable storage device or storage disk of claim 1 , wherein the fourth product alternative includes a fourth variant of the attribute, the fourth variant based on the preferred variant.

The computer readable storage device or storage disk of claim 1 , wherein the first variant of the attribute includes a first graphical or textual element, the second variant of the attribute includes a second graphical or textual element different than the first graphical or textual element, and the third variant of the attribute includes a third graphical or textual element different than the first graphical or textual element and the second graphical or textual element.

7. The computer readable storage device or storage disk of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause machine to:

identify a combination of the preferred product alternative and the third variant as corresponding to a non-permitted combination;

classify the third variant as the unpermitted variant in response to the identification of the non-permitted combination; and

select the second variant as the preferred variant in response to the classification of the third variant as the unpermitted variant.

8. An apparatus comprising:

memory; and

processor circuitry to:

identify a first product alternative as a preferred product alternative relative to a second product alternative and a third product alternative, the first product alternative including a first attribute variant, the second product alternative including a second attribute variant, and the third product alternative including a third attribute variant;

identify the second attribute variant or the third attribute variant as a preferred attribute variant; and

generate a fourth product alternative based on the first product alternative and the preferred attribute variant, the identification of the preferred attribute variant to prevent inclusion of one or more of a non-preferred attribute variant or an unpermitted attribute variant in the fourth product alternative.

The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first attribute variant is associated with a first performance level indicative of a first degree of user preference for the first attribute variant, the second attribute variant is associated with a second performance level indicative of a second degree of user preference for the second attribute variant, the third attribute variant is associated with a third performance level indicative of a third degree of user preference for the third attribute variant and the processor circuitry is to select the second attribute variant or the third attribute variant as the preferred attribute variant based on the first performance level, the second performance level, and the third performance level.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the processor circuitry is to identify the first attribute variant as the non-preferred attribute variant based on the first performance level for the first attribute variant.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the fourth product alternative includes the preferred attribute variant.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the fourth product alternative includes a fourth attribute variant, the fourth attribute variant based on the preferred attribute variant.

13. The apparatus claim 8 , wherein the first attribute variant includes a first graphical or textual element, the second attribute variant includes a second graphical or textual element different than the first graphical or textual element, and the third attribute variant includes a third graphical or textual element different than the first graphical or textual element and the second graphical or textual element.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor circuitry is to:

identify a combination of the preferred product alternative and the third attribute variant as corresponding to a non-permitted combination;

classify the third attribute variant as the unpermitted attribute variant in response to the identification of the non-permitted combination; and

select the second attribute variant as the preferred attribute variant in response to the classification of the third attribute variant as the unpermitted attribute variant.

15. A method comprising:

identifying, by executing an instruction with a processor, a first product alternative as a preferred product alternative relative to a second product alternative and a third product alternative, the first product alternative including a first variant of an attribute, the second product alternative including a second variant of the attribute, and the third product alternative including a third variant of the attribute;

selecting, by executing an instruction with the processor, the second variant or the third variant as a preferred variant; and

generating, by executing an instruction with the processor, a fourth product alternative based on the first product alternative and the preferred variant, the selection of the preferred variant to prevent inclusion of one or more of a non-preferred variant or an unpermitted variant in the fourth product alternative.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the first variant is associated with a first performance level indicative of a first degree of user preference for the first variant, the second variant is associated with a second performance level indicative of a second degree of user preference for the second variant, the third variant is associated with a third performance level indicative of a third degree of user preference for the third variant and further including selecting the second variant or the third variant as the preferred variant based on the first performance level, the second performance level, and the third performance level.

17. The method of claim 16 , further including identifying the first variant as the non-preferred variant based on the first performance level for the first variant.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the fourth product alternative includes the preferred variant.

19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the fourth product alternative includes a fourth variant of the attribute, the fourth variant based on the preferred variant.

20. The method of claim 15 , further including:

identifying a combination of the preferred product alternative and the third variant as corresponding to a non-permitted combination;

classifying the third variant as the unpermitted variant in response to the identification of the non-permitted combination; and

selecting the second variant as the preferred variant in response to the classification of the third variant as the unpermitted variant.
