Abstract

A wireless device receives RRC message(s) comprising: a first maximum value for a preamble transmission counter; and a second maximum value for a second counter. The second maximum value is different from the first maximum value. A control order initiating a random access procedure on a first unlicensed cell is received. A listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for transmission of a preamble for the random access procedure is performed. Based on the LBT procedure indicating an LBT failure for transmission of the preamble for the random access procedure: a value of the preamble transmission counter is keep the same; and a value of the second counter based on the LBT failure is incremented. The preamble transmission counter counts a number of preamble transmissions. The random access procedure is cancelled based on either the preamble transmission counter reaching the first maximum value or the second counter reaching the second maximum value.

Claims (52)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a wireless device, at least one radio resource control message (RRC) message comprising:

a first maximum value for a preamble transmission counter; and

a second maximum value for a second counter, the second maximum value being different from the first maximum value;

receiving a control order initiating a random access procedure on a first unlicensed cell;

performing a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for transmission of a preamble for the random access procedure; and

based on the LBT procedure indicating an LBT failure for transmission of the preamble for the random access procedure:

keeping a value of the preamble transmission counter the same, wherein the preamble transmission counter counts a number of preamble transmissions;

incrementing a value of the second counter based on the LBT failure; and

canceling the random access procedure based on either the preamble transmission counter reaching the first maximum value or the second counter reaching the second maximum value.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one RRC message further comprises random access resource information elements indicating a random access channel (RACH) for the transmission of the preamble.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the control order is a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) comprising a preamble index of the preamble and a random access mask index indicating the RACH.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to receiving the control order, resetting the preamble transmission counter.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to receiving the control order, resetting the second counter.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second counter is configured to indicate a number of transmission opportunities of the first unlicensed cell.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, based on the LBT failure, dropping the transmission of the preamble.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, based on the LBT failure, not monitoring a control channel for a random access response to the preamble.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising based on the LBT failure, not starting the random access response window timer for monitoring a control channel for a random access response to the preamble.

10. A wireless device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:

receive at least one radio resource control message (RRC) message comprising:

a first maximum value for a preamble transmission counter; and

a second maximum value for a second counter, the second maximum value being different from the first maximum value;

receive a control order initiating a random access procedure on a first unlicensed cell;

perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for transmission of a preamble for the random access procedure; and

based on the LBT procedure indicating an LBT failure for transmission of the preamble for the random access procedure:

keep a value of the preamble transmission counter the same, wherein the preamble transmission counter counts a number of preamble transmissions;

increment a value of the second counter based on the LBT failure; and

cancel the random access procedure based on either the preamble transmission counter reaching the first maximum value or the second counter reaching the second maximum value.

11. The wireless device of claim 10 , wherein the at least one RRC message further comprises random access resource information elements indicating a random access channel (RACH) for the transmission of the preamble.

12. The wireless device of claim 11 , wherein the control order is a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) comprising a preamble index of the preamble and a random access mask index indicating the RACH.

13. The wireless device of claim 10 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to, in response to receiving the control order, resetting the preamble transmission counter.

14. The wireless device of claim 10 , wherein the second counter is configured to indicate a number of transmission opportunities of the first unlicensed cell.

15. The wireless device of claim 10 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to, based on the LBT failure, drop the transmission of the preamble.

16. The wireless device of claim 10 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device, based on the LBT failure, not to monitor a control channel for a random access response to the preamble.

17. The wireless device of claim 10 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device, based on the LBT failure, not to start the random access response window timer for monitoring a control channel for a random access response to the preamble.

18. A base station comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to:

transmit at least one radio resource control message (RRC) message comprising:

a first maximum value for a preamble transmission counter; and

a second maximum value for a second counter, the second maximum value being different from the first maximum value; and

transmit a control order initiating a random access procedure on a first unlicensed cell,

wherein:

the first maximum value indicates a maximum number of preamble transmissions for the random access procedure;

the second maximum value indicates a maximum number of listen-before-talk (LBT) failures of at least one LBT procedure performed for transmission of a preamble for the random access procedure;

a value of the preamble transmission counter is kept the same, wherein the preamble transmission counter counts a number of preamble transmissions;

a value of the second counter is incremented based on the at least one LBT failure; and

the random access procedure is cancelled based on either the preamble transmission counter reaching the first maximum value or the second counter reaching the second maximum value.

19. The base station of claim 18 , wherein the at least one RRC message further comprises random access resource information elements indicating a random access channel (RACH) for the transmission of the preamble.

20. The base station of claim 19 , wherein the control order is a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) comprising a preamble index of the preamble and a random access mask index indicating the RACH.
