Abstract

The present invention provides systems and methods for deploying implantable devices within the body. The delivery and deployment systems include at least one catheter or an assembly of catheters for selectively positioning the lumens of the implant to within target vessels. Various deployment and attachment mechanisms are provided for selectively deploying the implants.

Claims (49)

1. A catheter assembly comprising:

a stent;

a catheter having a catheter distal end positionable in the stent; and

an elongated member releasably engageable with the catheter distal end, where the elongated member has an elongated member first end, an elongated member second end, and an elongated member middle section between the elongated member first end and the elongated member second end,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably engaged with the catheter distal end, the elongated member extends at least partially around the catheter distal end,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably engaged with the catheter distal end, the elongated member middle section is closer to the catheter distal end than the elongated member first end and the elongated member second end,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably engaged with the catheter distal end, the elongated member extends through an opening in the catheter,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably engaged with the catheter distal end, the elongated member middle section is between the opening and a distal terminal end of the catheter, and

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably engaged with the catheter distal end, a distal terminal end of the stent is between the opening and the distal terminal end of the catheter.

2. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , where the stent comprises a first branch and a second branch,

where the catheter distal end is positionable in the first branch,

where the elongated member is releasably attachable to the first branch,

where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the elongated member extends at least partially around a perimeter of the catheter distal end, and

where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the opening is closer to a distal end of the first branch than to a proximal end of the first branch.

3. The catheter assembly of claim 2 , where the first branch comprises a side branch of the stent.

4. The catheter assembly of claim 3 , where the second branch comprises a main branch of the stent.

5. The catheter assembly of claim 2 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the elongated member is releasably attached to the distal end of the first branch.

6. The catheter assembly of claim 2 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the opening is between the proximal end of the first branch and the distal end of the first branch.

7. The catheter assembly of claim 2 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a distal terminal end of the first branch is between the opening and the distal terminal end of the catheter.

8. The catheter assembly of claim 2 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a distal terminal end of the first branch is between the opening and a guidewire opening.

9. The catheter assembly of claim 2 , where the catheter has a guidewire opening, and where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the opening is closer to the guidewire opening than to the proximal end of the first branch.

10. The catheter assembly of claim 2 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a portion of the elongated member outside of the catheter is a distal most portion of the elongated member.

11. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably engaged with the catheter distal end, the elongated member contacts an outer surface of the catheter distal end between the opening and the distal terminal end of the catheter.

12. A catheter assembly comprising:

a stent;

a catheter having a catheter distal end positionable in the stent; and

an elongated member releasably attachable to the stent,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, the elongated member extends at least partially around a guidewire lumen,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, the elongated member extends through two openings in the catheter,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, a first terminal end of the stent is closer to the catheter distal end than a second terminal end of the stent,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, the first terminal end of the stent is closer to the two openings than the second terminal end of the stent,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, a portion of the elongated member outside of the catheter is a distal most portion of the elongated member,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, the distal most portion of the elongated member is between the two openings and an opening of the guidewire lumen,

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, the first terminal end of the stent is between the two openings and the opening of the guidewire lumen, and

where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably attached to the stent, the first terminal end of the stent is between the two openings and a distal terminal end of the catheter.

The catheter assembly of claim 12 , where when the catheter is in the stent and the elongated member is releasably engaged with the catheter distal end, the elongated member contacts an outer surface of the catheter distal end between the two openings and the distal terminal end of the catheter.

14. The catheter assembly of claim 12 , where the stent comprises a first branch and a second branch,

where the catheter distal end is positionable in the first branch,

where the elongated member is releasably attachable to the first branch,

where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the elongated member extends at least partially around a perimeter of the catheter distal end, and

where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the opening is closer to a distal end of the first branch than to a proximal end of the first branch.

15. The catheter assembly of claim 14 , where the first branch comprises a side branch of the stent.

16. The catheter assembly of claim 15 , where the second branch comprises a main branch of the stent.

17. The catheter assembly of claim 14 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, the elongated member is releasably attached to the distal end of the first branch.

18. The catheter assembly of claim 14 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a first opening of the two openings in the catheter is between the proximal end of the first branch and the distal end of the first branch.

19. The catheter assembly of claim 14 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a distal terminal end of the first branch is between a first opening of the two openings in the catheter and the distal terminal end of the catheter.

20. The catheter assembly of claim 14 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a distal terminal end of the first branch is between a first opening of the two openings in the catheter and the opening of the guidewire lumen.

21. The catheter assembly of claim 14 , and where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a first opening of the two openings in the catheter is closer to the opening of the guidewire lumen than to the proximal end of the first branch.

22. The catheter assembly of claim 14 , where when the catheter is in the first branch and the elongated member is releasably attached to the first branch, a portion of the elongated member outside of the catheter is a distal most portion of the elongated member.
