Abstract

A portable cooler container is provided. The temperature control system cools a chamber of the container to transport temperature sensitive contents via the container. An electronic display screen on one of the lid and the container body selectively displays an electronic shipping label for the portable cooler container.

Claims (37)

1. A portable cooler container system, comprising:

an outer housing;

a double-walled vacuum insulated container body having an outer perimeter surrounded by the outer housing and having a chamber configured to receive and hold one or more perishable goods;

a lid operable to access the chamber; and

an electronic system of the container body disposed between an outer surface of the outer housing and the chamber, comprising

one or more batteries, and

circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate via a cell radio with a cloud-based data storage system or a remote electronic device; and

an electronic display screen configured to selectively display an electronic shipping label for the portable cooler container.

2. The portable cooler container system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more volumes of a phase change material or thermal mass disposed in the chamber and configured to at least partially surround and face the one or more perishable goods to cool the one or more perishable goods.

3. The portable cooler container system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are removably disposed in the chamber.

4. The portable cooler container system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are disposed at least partially about the chamber.

5. The portable cooler container system of claim 4 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass define at least a portion of one or both of a circumferential sidewall and a base wall of the chamber.

6. The portable cooler container of claim 2 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are disposed between the chamber and an inner wall of the double-walled vacuum insulated container body.

7. The portable cooler container system of claim 1 , further comprising a button or a touch screen manually actuatable by a user to one or both of a) automatically switch sender and recipient information on the display screen to facilitate return of the portable cooler container to a sender and b) automatically contact a shipping carrier to alert the shipping carrier that a new electronic shipping label has been issued and that the container is ready for pickup.

8. The portable cooler container system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more sensors configured to sense one or more parameters of the chamber and to communicate the sensed parameters to the circuitry.

9. The portable cooler container system of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is a temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature in the chamber.

10. The portable cooler container system of claim 1 , wherein the electronic display screen is an electrophoretic ink display screen.

11. The portable cooler container system of claim 1 , wherein the lid is a vacuum insulated lid.

12. The portable cooler container of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the outer housing comprises a thermally insulative material.

13. The portable cooler container of claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of the outer housing comprises an impact resistant material.

14. A portable cooler container system, comprising:

a double-walled vacuum insulated container body having a chamber configured to receive and hold one or more perishable goods;

one or more volumes of a phase change material or thermal mass disposed in the chamber and configured to at least partially surround and face the one or more perishable goods;

a lid operable to access the chamber; and

an electronic system of the container body disposed between an outer surface of the outer housing and the chamber, comprising

one or more batteries, and

circuitry configured to wirelessly communicate via a cell radio with a cloud-based data storage system or a remote electronic device; and

an electronic display screen on one of the lid and the container body.

15. The portable cooler container system of claim 14 , wherein the one or more volumes of the phase change material or thermal mass comprises one or more ice packs.

16. The portable cooler container system of claim 15 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are removably disposed in the chamber.

17. The portable cooler container system of claim 15 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are disposed at least partially about the chamber.

18. The portable cooler container system of claim 17 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass define at least a portion of one or both of a circumferential sidewall and a base wall of the chamber.

19. The portable cooler container of claim 15 , wherein the one or more volumes of phase change material or thermal mass are disposed between the chamber and an inner wall of the double-walled vacuum insulated container body.

20. The portable cooler container system of claim 14 , further comprising a button or a touch screen manually actuatable by a user to a) automatically switch sender and recipient information on the display screen to facilitate return of the portable cooler container to a sender and b) automatically contact a shipping carrier to alert the shipping carrier that a new electronic shipping label has been issued and that the container is ready for pickup.

21. The portable cooler container system of claim 14 , further comprising one or more sensors configured to sense one or more parameters of the chamber and to communicate the sensed parameters to the circuitry.

22. The portable cooler container system of claim 21 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is a temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature in the chamber.

23. The portable cooler container system of claim 14 , wherein the lid is a vacuum insulated lid.
