Abstract

A control system configured to serve one or more energy loads in a building comprises equipment configured to consume, produce, or store one or more resources including electricity, water, natural gas, steam, hot thermal energy, cold thermal energy, or electrical energy. The control system includes an asset allocator configured to receive an input model that describes a physical layout of the equipment and create a net list that defines connections between the equipment using the input model. The asset allocator is configured to discover one or more systems of interconnected equipment and one or more groups of equipment using the net list, formulate an optimization problem using the systems and groups of equipment, and operate the equipment according to the optimization problem.

Claims (43)

1. A method for operating equipment, the method comprising:

obtaining modeling input describing a physical layout of equipment that operate to consume, produce, or store one or more resources;

determining one or more systems or groups of interconnected equipment based on the modeling input by determining one or more cycles formed by the interconnected equipment, a cycle comprising a path of directed connections between the equipment that forms a closed loop;

formulating an optimization problem using the systems or groups of interconnected equipment; and

operating the equipment according to the optimization problem.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more resources comprise at least one of electricity, water, natural gas, steam, heated water, chilled water, hot thermal energy, cold thermal energy, heated air, chilled air, or electrical energy.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the physical layout of the equipment describes connections between the equipment; and

determining the one or more systems or groups of interconnected equipment comprises identifying the one or more systems or groups based on the connections.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein operating the equipment according to the optimization problem comprises simulating operation of the equipment over a predetermined time period to predict at least one of resource production or resource consumption of the equipment over the predetermined time period.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the physical layout of the equipment describes connections between the equipment; and

formulating the optimization problem comprises generating one or more optimization constraints based on the connections.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising generating a group of the equipment using the one or more cycles present within the system.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the modeling input is obtained at least partially from a user via a user interface.

8. A control system for equipment that operate to produce, consume, or store one or more resources, the control system comprising one or more processing circuits configured to:

obtain modeling input describing a physical layout of the equipment;

determine one or more systems or groups of interconnected equipment based on the modeling input by determining one or more cycles formed by the interconnected equipment, a cycle comprising a path of directed connections between the equipment that forms a closed loop;

formulate an optimization problem using the systems or groups of interconnected equipment; and

operate the equipment according to the optimization problem.

9. The control system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more resources comprise at least one of electricity, water, natural gas, steam, heated water, chilled water, hot thermal energy, cold thermal energy, heated air, chilled air, or electrical energy.

10. The control system of claim 8 , wherein:

the physical layout of the equipment describes connections between the equipment; and

determining the one or more systems or groups of interconnected equipment comprises identifying the one or more systems or groups based on the connections.

11. The control system of claim 8 , wherein operating the equipment according to the optimization problem comprises simulating operation of the equipment over a predetermined time period to predict at least one of resource production or resource consumption of the equipment over the predetermined time period.

12. The control system of claim 8 , wherein:

the physical layout of the equipment describes connections between the equipment; and

formulating the optimization problem comprises generating one or more optimization constraints based on the connections.

13. The control system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processing circuits are configured to generate a group of the equipment using the one or more cycles present within the system.

14. The control system of claim 8 , wherein the modeling input is obtained at least partially from a user via a user interface.

15. One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions stored thereon that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

obtaining modeling input describing a physical layout of equipment that operate to consume, produce, or store one or more resources;

formulating a simulation of the equipment based on the modeling input by determining one or more cycles formed by the equipment, a cycle comprising a path of directed connections between the equipment that forms a closed loop; and

operating the equipment according to the simulation.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 15 , wherein:

the physical layout of the equipment describes connections between the equipment; and

the operations comprise identifying one or more systems or groups of the equipment based on the connections.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 15 , wherein operating the equipment according to the simulation comprises simulating operation of the equipment over a predetermined time period to predict at least one of resource production or resource consumption of the equipment over the predetermined time period.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 15 , wherein:

the physical layout of the equipment describes connections between the equipment; and
