Abstract

A method for laying multiple conductors in a container may be provided. The method may comprise receiving the multiple conductors at a monitoring station; receiving the multiple conductors at a drive; and receiving the multiple conductors at the container.

Claims (17)

1. A method for laying multiple unbound conductors in a container, the method comprising:

receiving multiple conductors through a tension equalization fixture;

receiving, after receiving the multiple conductors through the tension equalization fixture, the multiple conductors at a monitoring station configured to monitor a length of each of the multiple conductors individually passing through the monitoring station;

receiving the multiple conductors at a variable speed drive capable of adjusting a speed at which each of the multiple conductors moves; and

receiving a same length of each of the multiple conductors at a container.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the multiple conductors at the monitoring station comprises monitoring the length of each of the multiple conductors individually passing through the monitoring station with an optical scanner.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

detecting, via the optical scanner, a variation in the length of one or more of the multiple conductors passing through the monitoring station; and

altering an operation when the variation exceeds a predetermined amount.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the multiple conductors at the container comprises passing the multiple conductors through a feed tube located between the variable speed drive and the container.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the multiple conductors at the variable speed drive comprises passing the multiple conductors between a drive wheel and a pressure roller.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the multiple conductors comprises a conductor comprising an insulation or jacket comprising a lubricant.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising removing the multiple conductors from at least one payoff reel, wherein removing the multiple conductors from the at least one payoff reel comprises removing each conductor from a separate payoff reel.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising monitoring a feeding characteristic of at least one of the multiple conductors.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising adjusting the feeding characteristic of the at least one of the multiple conductors.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein adjusting the feeding characteristic of the at least one of the multiple conductors comprises decreasing or increasing a speed of grooved interlocking rollers to decrease or increase the speed of the at least one of the multiple conductors travels.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein adjusting the feeding characteristic of the at least one of the multiple conductors when the feeding characteristic of the at least one of the multiple conductors varies comprises adjusting the feeding characteristic of the at least one of the multiple conductors when the feeding characteristic of the at least one of the multiple conductors varies by a predetermined amount.
