Systems and methods for automatically generating supplemental content for a media asset based on a user's personal media collection
Systems and methods describe presenting media to a user at a user device, determining a location relevant to the media, determining whether the user has visited a vicinity of the location by searching through information related to the user, and based on to determining that the user has visited the vicinity of the location searching through the user's personal collection of media in a time window corresponding to the user's visit to retrieve personal media related to the location, and generating for display, based on the searching, a list of personal media related to the location relevant to the media being presented at the user device.
1. A method of generating supplemental media content for a media asset, the method comprising:
identifying, by control circuitry, subject matter related to the media asset being consumed by a user;
identifying, by the control circuitry, as the supplemental media content, a plurality of supplemental media content items generated by the user of a plurality of media content items associated with a user profile of the user, and related to the subject matter of the media asset, wherein identifying, by the control circuitry, a supplemental media content item of the plurality of supplemental media content items as related to the subject matter of the media asset comprises:
determining a location referenced in the media asset;
determining a physical location associated with a media content item that is associated with the user profile; and
in response to determining the location referenced in the media asset matches the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile, identifying the media content item as the supplemental media content item;
combining, by the control circuitry, each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items generated by the user into a combined supplemental media content item; and
generating, by the control circuitry, for simultaneous consumption at a particular computing device the media asset and the combined supplemental media content item including each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items generated by the user.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the combined supplemental media content item comprises a first supplemental media content item of a first multimedia type and a second supplemental media content item of a second multimedia content item that is different than the first multimedia type.
3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
generating for display, by the control circuitry, a list specifying each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items of the combined supplemental media content item.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the user is a first user,
the user profile is a first user profile of the first user, and
identifying, by the control circuitry, a supplemental media content item of the plurality of supplemental media content items as related to the subject matter of the media asset further comprises:
determining, based on the first user profile, a second user profile of a second user; and
identifying, as a supplemental media content item of the plurality of supplemental media content items, a media content item, associated with the second user profile, that is related to the subject matter of the media asset.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein determining, based on the first user profile, the second user profile of the second user comprises determining that the second user accompanied the first user on a trip to the location referenced in the media asset.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the location referenced in the media asset matches the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile comprises determining whether the location referenced in the media asset is within a predetermined distance of the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of supplemental media content items are arranged in an order based on a distance computed between the location referenced in the media asset and the respective physical locations associated with each of the supplemental media content items.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the physical location associated with the media content item that is associated with the user profile comprises:
extracting a geotag from the media content item, wherein the geotag is associated with the media content item based on a current location of the user associated with the user profile at a time of generation of the media content item.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the location referenced in the media asset matches the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile comprises:
analyzing the media asset to determine a landmark referenced in the media asset;
identifying a landmark in a media content item associated with the user profile; and
determining the landmark identified in the media content item matches the landmark referenced in the media asset.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items are captured by one or more computing devices of the user.
11. A system to generate supplemental media content for a media asset, the system comprising:
control circuitry configured to:
identify subject matter related to the media asset being consumed by a user;
identify, as the supplemental media content, a plurality of supplemental media content items generated by the user of a plurality of media content items associated with a user profile of the user, and related to the subject matter of the media asset, wherein the control circuitry is configured to identify a supplemental media content item of the plurality of supplemental media content items as related to the subject matter of the media asset by:
determining a location referenced in the media asset;
determining a physical location associated with a media content item that is associated with the user profile; and
in response to determining the location referenced in the media asset matches the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile, identifying the media content item as the supplemental media content item;
combine each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items generated by the user into a combined supplemental media content item; and
generate for simultaneous consumption at a particular computing device the media asset and the combined supplemental media content item including each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items generated by the user.
12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the combined supplemental media content item comprises a first supplemental media content item of a first multimedia type and a second supplemental media content item of a second multimedia content item that is different than the first multimedia type.
13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
generate for display a list specifying each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items of the combined supplemental media content item.
14. The system of claim 11 , wherein:
the user is a first user,
the user profile is a first user profile of the first user, and
the control circuitry is configured to identify a supplemental media content item of the plurality of supplemental media content items as related to the subject matter of the media asset by:
determining, based on the first user profile, a second user profile of a second user; and
identifying, as a supplemental media content item of the plurality of supplemental media content items, a media content item, associated with the second user profile, that is related to the subject matter of the media asset.
15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to determine, based on the first user profile, the second user profile of the second user by determining that the second user accompanied the first user on a trip to the location referenced in the media asset.
16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to determine whether the location referenced in the media asset matches the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile by determining whether the location referenced in the media asset is within a predetermined distance of the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile.
17. The system of claim 11 , the control circuitry is configured to arrange the plurality of supplemental media content items in an order based on a distance computed between the location referenced in the media asset and the respective physical locations associated with each of the supplemental media content items.
18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to determine the physical location associated with the media content item that is associated with the user profile by:
extracting a geotag from the media content item, wherein the geotag is associated with the media content item based on a current location of the user associated with the user profile at a time of generation of the media content item.
19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to determine the location referenced in the media asset matches the physical location associated with the media content item associated with the user profile by:
analyzing the media asset to determine a landmark referenced in the media asset;
identifying a landmark in a media content item associated with the user profile; and
determining the landmark identified in the media content item matches the landmark referenced in the media asset.
20. The system of claim 11 , wherein each of the identified plurality of supplemental media content items are captured by one or more computing devices of the user.
