Abstract

Wireless communications are described in which a wireless device may receive a message comprising a timing advance command (TAC) for a secondary cell group. The wireless device may transmit or drop one or more sounding reference signals via a secondary cell of the secondary cell group, after applying the TAC.

Claims (113)

1. A method comprising:

transmitting, by a wireless device, a random access preamble via a secondary cell group;

receiving a random access response (RAR) comprising a timing advance command (TAC) for the secondary cell group;

starting a time alignment timer for the secondary cell group; and

after applying the TAC and after starting the time alignment timer, and based on whether the wireless device has sufficient power to transmit a sounding reference signal (SRS) in a same time interval with one or more data packets:

transmitting, via a secondary cell of the secondary cell group, the SRS; or

dropping a configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

applying the TAC for the secondary cell group.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the wireless device, an activation command to activate the secondary cell,

wherein transmission associated with the random access preamble is the only uplink transmission by the wireless device via the secondary cell after receiving the activation command and before the starting the time alignment timer.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein SRS transmission by the wireless device via the secondary cell is not performed when the time alignment timer is not running.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the starting the time alignment timer for the secondary cell group comprises starting, or restarting, the time alignment timer for the secondary cell group based on receiving the TAC in the RAR.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

based on an expiration of the time alignment timer, stopping SRS transmission.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of cell groups comprises a first cell group and the secondary cell group, and wherein:

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a cell of the secondary cell group.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RAR further comprises a power control command, and wherein transmission power associated with transmission of the SRS is based on the power control command.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a radio resource control (RRC) message indicating an SRS configuration;

receiving an activation command to activate the secondary cell, wherein the transmitting the random access preamble is performed after receiving the activation command; and

after applying the TAC and based on the time alignment timer running, starting SRS transmission by the wireless device via the secondary cell and using the SRS configuration.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the starting SRS transmission comprises transmitting a type-0 SRS.

11. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the transmitting the SRS via the secondary cell is based on the wireless device having sufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets, and

wherein the dropping the configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell is based on the wireless device having insufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets.

12. A wireless device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:

transmit a random access preamble via a secondary cell group;

receive a random access response (RAR) comprising a timing advance command (TAC) for the secondary cell group;

start a time alignment timer for the secondary cell group; and

after applying the TAC and after starting the time alignment timer, and based on whether the wireless device has sufficient power to transmit a sounding reference signal (SRS) in a same time interval with one or more data packets:

transmit, via a secondary cell of the secondary cell group, the SRS; or

drop a configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell.

13. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:

apply the TAC for the secondary cell group.

The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to receive an activation command to activate the secondary cell, and to be configured such that transmission associated with the random access preamble is the only uplink transmission by the wireless device via the secondary cell after receiving the activation command and before starting the time alignment timer.

15. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to not perform SRS transmission via the secondary cell when the time alignment timer is not running.

16. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to start the time alignment timer for the secondary cell group by starting, or restarting, the time alignment timer for the secondary cell group based on receiving the TAC in the RAR.

17. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:

based on an expiration of the time alignment timer, stop SRS transmission.

18. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein a plurality of cell groups comprises a first cell group and the secondary cell group, and wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to be configured such that:

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a cell of the secondary cell group.

19. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the RAR further comprises a power control command, and wherein transmission power associated with transmission of the SRS is based on the power control command.

20. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to:

receive a radio resource control (RRC) message indicating an SRS configuration;

receive an activation command to activate the secondary cell, and transmit the random access preamble after receiving the activation command; and

after applying the TAC and based on the time alignment timer running, start SRS transmission via the secondary cell and using the SRS configuration.

21. The wireless device of claim 20 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to start the SRS transmission by transmitting a type-0 SRS.

22. The wireless device of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:

transmit the SRS via the secondary cell group based on the wireless device having sufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets, transmit the SRS via the secondary cell group; or

drop the configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell based on the wireless device having insufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets.

23. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, configure a wireless device to:

transmit a random access preamble via a secondary cell group;

receive a random access response (RAR) comprising a timing advance command (TAC) for the secondary cell group;

start a time alignment timer for the secondary cell group; and

after applying the TAC and after starting the time alignment timer, and based on whether the wireless device has sufficient power to transmit a sounding reference signal (SRS) in a same time interval with one or more data packets:

transmit, via a secondary cell of the secondary cell group, the SRS; or

drop a configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device:

apply the TAC for the secondary cell group.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device to receive an activation command to activate the secondary cell, and configure the wireless device such that transmission associated with the random access preamble is the only uplink transmission by the wireless device via the secondary cell after receiving the activation command and before starting the time alignment timer.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device to not perform SRS transmission via the secondary cell when the time alignment timer is not running.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device to start the time alignment timer for the secondary cell group by starting, or restarting, the time alignment timer based on receiving the TAC in the RAR.

28. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device to:

based on an expiration of the time alignment timer, stop SRS transmission.

29. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein a plurality of cell groups comprises a first cell group and the secondary cell group, and wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device such that:

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a cell of the secondary cell group.

30. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the RAR further comprises a power control command, and wherein transmission power associated with transmission of the SRS is based on the power control command.

31. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device to:

transmit the SRS via the secondary cell group based on the wireless device having sufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets, transmit the SRS via the secondary cell group; or

drop the configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell based on the wireless device having insufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets.

32. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further configure the wireless device to:

receive a radio resource control (RRC) message indicating an SRS configuration;

receive an activation command to activate the secondary cell, and transmit the random access preamble after receiving the activation command; and

after applying the TAC and based on the time alignment timer running, start SRS transmission via the secondary cell and using the SRS configuration.

33. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 32 , wherein the instructions, when executed, configure the wireless device to start the SRS transmission by transmitting a type-0 SRS.

34. A system comprising:

a base station; and

a wireless device,

wherein the base station is configured to:

receive a random access preamble via a secondary cell group; and

transmit a random access response (RAR) comprising a timing advance command (TAC) for the secondary cell group, and

wherein the wireless device is configured to:

transmit the random access preamble via the secondary cell group;

receive the RAR;

start a time alignment timer for the secondary cell group; and

after applying the TAC and after starting the time alignment timer, and based on whether the wireless device has sufficient power to transmit a sounding reference signal (SRS) in a same time interval with one or more data packets:

transmit, via a secondary cell of the secondary cell group, the SRS; or

drop a configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell.

35. The system of claim 34 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to:

apply the TAC for the secondary cell group.

36. The system of claim 34 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to receive an activation command to activate the secondary cell, and is further configured such that transmission associated with the random access preamble is the only uplink transmission by the wireless device via the secondary cell after receiving the activation command and before starting the time alignment timer.

37. The system of claim 34 , wherein the wireless device is configured to not perform SRS transmission via the secondary cell when the time alignment timer is not running.

38. The system of claim 34 , wherein the wireless device is configured to start the time alignment timer for the secondary cell group by starting, or restarting, the time alignment timer for the secondary cell group based on receiving the TAC in the RAR.

39. The system of claim 34 , wherein the wireless device is configured to:

based on an expiration of the time alignment timer, stop SRS transmission.

40. The system of claim 34 , wherein a plurality of cell groups comprises a first cell group and the secondary cell group, and wherein the wireless device is configured such that:

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a cell of the secondary cell group.

41. The system of claim 34 , wherein the RAR further comprises a power control command, and wherein transmission power associated with transmission of the SRS is based on the power control command.

42. The system of claim 34 , wherein the wireless device is further configured to:

receive a radio resource control (RRC) message indicating an SRS configuration;

receive an activation command to activate the secondary cell, and transmit the random access preamble after receiving the activation command; and

after applying the TAC and based on the time alignment timer running, start SRS transmission via the secondary cell and using the SRS configuration.

43. The system of claim 34 , wherein the wireless device is configured to:

transmit the SRS via the secondary cell group based on the wireless device having sufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets, transmit the SRS via the secondary cell group; or

drop the configured transmission of the SRS via the secondary cell based on the wireless device having insufficient power to transmit the SRS in the same time interval with the one or more data packets.
