Abstract

In various embodiments, a group photograph system coordinates and creates a group photograph of participants of a video conferencing session. Using inputs from the participants, the group photograph system captures images of individual participants and selectively assembles a group photograph based on the rating of each individual participant. In one embodiment, the group photograph system sends a countdown signal to a first participant and a second participant wherein the first participant and the second participant are part of a group photograph within a video conferencing session wherein the countdown signal represents an amount of time before a first participant image is captured of the first participant. In another embodiment, the group photography system captures the first participant image and a second participant image of the first participant and the second participant, respectively and creates a first group photograph which includes the first participant image and the second participant image.

Claims (39)

1. An apparatus for facilitating a video conference comprising:

a server configured to host a plurality of participants via a communication network and having a group photograph creation (“GPC”) system, each participant of the plurality of participants having a corresponding user equipment (“UE”) configured to connect to the server using the communication network for a video conferencing session, wherein each UE includes a camera and a display, and wherein the GPC system includes:

an invitation coordinator configured to detects an initiation of a group photograph from one of the plurality of participants;

a user interface coordinator coupled to the invitation coordinator and operable to instruct one or more UEs of a plurality of UEs to take one or more photos; and

an image aggregator coupled to the user interface coordinator and configured to identify photographs of individuals who participate in a group photograph from various UEs.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the GPC system further includes a ranking selector coupled to the image aggregator and configured to facilitate a rating process of the group photographs aggregated by the image aggregator.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the ranking selector is able to poll rankings from various participants who are in the group photographs.

4. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the ranking selector is configured to track ratings and compute scores that represent the popularity of each group photographs.

5. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the ranking selector is configured to generate a final version of group photograph in response to rankings received from participants of the group photographs.

6. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the GPC system further includes a controller configured to manage data flows between the invitation coordinator and the image aggregator.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the controller coordinates information flow between the user interface coordinator and the ranking selector.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the invitation coordinator is capable of polling the plurality of participants for inclusion into the group photograph.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the invitation coordinator is capable of tracking responses from the plurality of participants who want to participate in the group photograph.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the invitation coordinator is capable of tracking responses from the plurality of participants who decline to participate in the group photograph.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the user interface coordinator is configured to coordinate displaying of the group photograph on displays of the plurality of UEs.

12. A method for facilitating a video conference via a plurality of user devices connected by a communication network, the method comprising:

inviting meeting participants to a group photograph during a video conferencing session, wherein inviting meeting participants to a group photograph comprises allowing the meeting participants to accept or decline to be part of the group photograph;

tracking responses from the meeting participants who decline to participate in the group photograph;

displaying a grid representing a first participant and a second participant ready for a photograph after receiving invitation acceptances from the first participant and the second participant;

capturing a first image of the first participant by a first user device and a second image of the second participant by a second user device;

creating a group photo which includes the first image and the second image; and

forwarding the group photo to the first participant and the second participant for review.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising sending a countdown signal to a first participant and a second participant wherein the first participant and the second participant are part of a group photograph.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein sending a countdown signal includes counting an amount of time before the first image is captured.

15. The method of claim 12 , further comprising receiving a first group photograph rank from the first participant.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein receiving a first group photograph rank includes reflecting a rating of the first group photograph by the first participant.

17. The method of claim 12 , further comprising receiving a second group photograph rank from the first participant wherein the second group photograph rank reflects a rating of a second group photograph by the first participant.

18. An article of manufacture for use in a digital processing system able to facilitate a video conferencing session, the article of manufacture including a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing program code, the program code comprising:

inviting meeting participants to a group photograph during a video conferencing session, wherein inviting the meeting participants comprises allowing the meeting participants to accept or decline to be part of the group photograph

tracking responses from the meeting participants who decline to participate in the group photograph;

displaying a grid representing a first participant and a second participant ready for a photograph after receiving invitation acceptances from the first participant and the second participant;

capturing a first image of the first participant by a first user device and a second image of the second participant by a second user device;

creating a group photo which includes the first image and the second image; and

forwarding the group photo to the first participant and the second participant for review.

19. The article of manufacture of claim 18 , further comprising sending a countdown signal to a first participant and a second participant wherein the first participant and the second participant are part of a group photograph.

20. The article of manufacture of claim 19 , wherein sending a countdown signal includes counting an amount of time before a first image is captured.

21. The article of manufacture of claim 18 , further comprising receiving a first group photograph rank from the first participant.

22. The article of manufacture of claim 21 , wherein receiving a first group photograph rank includes reflecting a rating of the first group photograph by the first participant.

23. The method of claim 12 , further comprising displaying a listing of the meeting participants who decline to participate in the group photograph.
