Abstract

Implants are provided, comprising the implant and a plurality of sensors.

Claims (36)

1. A method comprising:

obtaining data from a medical device implanted in a body of a subject, where the medical device is an implantable medical device comprising an aesthetic implant and a plurality of sensors, where the aesthetic implant comprises a shell and a filling within the shell and is a breast implant, a nose implant, a chin implant, a bicep implant, a tricep implant, a buttock implant or a calf implant, and the plurality of sensors comprise at least one sensor within the filling, the at least one sensor within the filling being one of a contact sensor, a pressure sensor, an accelerometer sensor, a temperature sensor, a mechanical stress sensor, a position sensor, a chemical microsensor or a tissue metabolic sensor;

collecting and storing the data in a memory chip configured to collect and store the data, the memory chip located on or within the medical device; and

transferring the data from the memory chip to a location outside the medical device.

2. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of analyzing said data.

3. The method according to claim 2 wherein analyzing the data provides information pertaining to one or more of subject activity, subject function, implant activity, implant function, implant performance, implant placement, implant forces and mechanical stresses, implant and surrounding tissue anatomy, mechanical and physical integrity of the implant, and potential local and systemic side effects.

4. The method according to claim 2 wherein analyzing the data provides information on how the subject's performance has been affected by an intervention.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the intervention is selected from pain control, anti-inflammatory medication, and rest.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the at least one sensor within the filling is one of an accelerometer sensor and a position sensor configured to obtain position data,

the steps of obtaining, collecting, storing, and transferring position data are repeated a plurality of time over a period of time, and

analyzing the position data provides information on changes in the position of the aesthetic implant over time.

7. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the shell comprises a body having an inner surface,

the plurality of sensors comprise at least one sensor located within the body of the shell or on the inner surface of the shell, and

the at least one sensor located within the body of the shell or on the inner surface of the shell is one of a contact sensor, a pressure sensor, an accelerometer sensor, a temperature sensor, a mechanical stress sensor, a position sensor.

8. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the shell comprises a body having an inner surface,

the plurality of sensors comprise at least one sensor located within the body of the shell or on the inner surface of the shell, and

the at least one sensor located within the body of the shell or on the inner surface of the shell is one of a chemical microsensor or a tissue metabolic sensor.

9. The method of claim 2 further comprising obtaining data from a wearable device associated with the body of the subject, the data comprising one or more of location data, temperature data, pulse data, and glucose data.

10. The method of claim 1 comprising the step of interrogating at a desired point in time the activity of one or more sensors within the medical device, and recording said activity.

11. The method according to claim 10 wherein the step of interrogating is performed by the subject which has said medical device.

12. The method according to claim 10 wherein said recording is performed on a wearable device.

13. The method according to claim 10 , wherein said recording, or a portion thereof, is provided to a health care provider.

14. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

transmitting a wireless electrical signal from a location outside the body of the subject to a location inside the subject's body;

receiving the signal at a sensor positioned on the medical implant located inside the body of the subject;

powering the sensor using the received signal;

sensing data at the sensor; and

outputting the sensed data from the sensor to a receiving unit located outside of the body of the subject.

15. The method according to claim 14 wherein said receiving unit is a watch, wrist band, cell phone or glasses.

16. The method according to claim 14 wherein said receiving unit is located within a subject's residence or office.

17. The method according to claim 14 wherein said sensed data is provided to a health care provider.

18. The method according to claim 14 wherein said sensed data is posted to one or more websites.

19. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the data is obtained from the sensors on a live continuous basis.
