Abstract

Techniques in this disclosure may provide a user interface that concurrently displays multiple panels which provide visualization of emergency call data of a law enforcement agency. The user interface can provide a high-level overview of emergency calls in a geographical area. Each panel in the user interface can provide visualization of the emergency calls and/or statistics relating to the calls. A user can customize which panels to include in the user interface and/or customize setting for each panel. The user may apply various types of filters to the data displayed in the user interface, and the panels can update the visualizations according to the filters. The user interface can also provide the ability to show data at various levels of detail within the same user interface or panel. The techniques in the disclosure can provide a convenient, digestible overview of tactical and/or strategic data in a single user interface.

Claims (43)

1. A computer system configured to provide a dynamic user interface relating to visualizations of data associated with a law enforcement agency, the computer system comprising:

one or more hardware computer processors configured to execute code to cause the system to:

generate a dynamic user interface including an interactive geographical map, the map including a first plurality of selectable indicators each associated with respective geographical regions;

automatically determine quantity ranges usable for determining appearances of each of the first plurality of selectable indicators, wherein the quantity ranges are determined based on quantities of events associated with the predetermined geographical regions, the events determined from data associated with a law enforcement agency;

determine and adjust an appearance of each of the first plurality of selectable indicators based on the determined quantity ranges and the quantities of events associated with the respective associated geographical regions;

in response to a user input selecting a first selectable indicator of the first plurality of selectable indicators, update the map to provide a magnified view of a first geographical region associated with the first selectable indicator; and

update the map to further provide, in the magnified view of the first geographical region, a second plurality of selectable indicators each associated with a respective event occurring within the first geographical region, wherein an appearance of each of the second plurality of selectable indicators is based on one or more characteristics associated with the respective associated events.

2. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the map is updated to further provide the second plurality of selectable indications in response to the user input selecting the first selectable indicator.

3. The computer system of claim 2 , wherein the map is updated to further provide the second plurality of selectable indications when the map is updated to provide the magnified view of the first geographical region.

4. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein a color or pattern of each of the second plurality of selectable indicators is based on a first characteristic associated with the respective associated events.

5. The computer system of claim 4 , wherein a shape of each of the second plurality of selectable indicators is based on a second characteristic associated with the respective associated events.

6. The computer system of claim 5 , wherein the first characteristic and the second characteristic are different.

7. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the second characteristic comprises a time associated with the respective associated events.

8. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more hardware computer processors are configured to execute code to further cause the system to:

in response to a hover or selection user input associated with one of the geographical regions, update the map to provide an indication of a boundary of the one of the geographical regions.

9. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more hardware computer processors are configured to execute code to further cause the system to:

in response to a hover or selection user input associated with one of the second plurality of selectable indicators, update the map to provide detailed information associated with the one of the second plurality of selectable indicators.

10. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more hardware computer processors are configured to execute code to further cause the system to:

concurrently display a plurality of panels in the dynamic user interface, wherein a first panel includes the interactive geographical map, and wherein a second panel includes at least some of the data associated with the law enforcement agency related to events; and

in response to a filter operation applied to the data that filters the events, cause both the first and second panels to be updated based on filtering the events.

11. A method of providing a dynamic user interface relating to visualizations of data associated with a law enforcement agency, the computer method comprising:

by one or more hardware computer processors configured to execute code:

generating a dynamic user interface including an interactive geographical map, the map including a first plurality of selectable indicators each associated with respective geographical regions;

automatically determining quantity ranges usable for determining appearances of each of the first plurality of selectable indicators, wherein the quantity ranges are determined based on quantities of events associated with the predetermined geographical regions, the events determined from data associated with a law enforcement agency;

determining and adjusting an appearance of each of the first plurality of selectable indicators based on the determined quantity ranges and the quantities of events associated with the respective associated geographical regions;

in response to a user input selecting a first selectable indicator of the first plurality of selectable indicators, updating the map to provide a magnified view of a first geographical region associated with the first selectable indicator; and

updating the map to further provide, in the magnified view of the first geographical region, a second plurality of selectable indicators each associated with a respective event occurring within the first geographical region, wherein an appearance of each of the second plurality of selectable indicators is based on one or more characteristics associated with the respective associated events.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the map is updated to further provide the second plurality of selectable indications in response to the user input selecting the first selectable indicator.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the map is updated to further provide the second plurality of selectable indications when the map is updated to provide the magnified view of the first geographical region.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein a color or pattern of each of the second plurality of selectable indicators is based on a first characteristic associated with the respective associated events.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein a shape of each of the second plurality of selectable indicators is based on a second characteristic associated with the respective associated events.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the first characteristic and the second characteristic are different.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the second characteristic comprises a time associated with the respective associated events.

18. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

by the one or more hardware computer processors configured to execute code:

in response to a hover or selection user input associated with one of the geographical regions, updating the map to provide an indication of a boundary of the one of the geographical regions.

19. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

by the one or more hardware computer processors configured to execute code:

in response to a hover or selection user input associated with one of the second plurality of selectable indicators, updating the map to provide detailed information associated with the one of the second plurality of selectable indicators.

20. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

by the one or more hardware computer processors configured to execute code:

concurrently displaying a plurality of panels in the dynamic user interface, wherein a first panel includes the interactive geographical map, and wherein a second panel includes at least some of the data associated with the law enforcement agency related to events; and

in response to a filter operation applied to the data that filters the events, causing both the first and second panels to be updated based on filtering the events.
