Abstract

A method includes providing a machine-readable identifier attached to an article of clothing, each of the plurality of identifying ciphers is disposed in a predetermined discrete area; receiving a scanned image of the machine-readable identifier to detect the identifying ciphers of each of the predetermined discrete areas; retrieving a predetermined stored cipher for each of the predetermined discrete areas; comparing the identifying ciphers of each of the predetermined discrete areas with the predetermined stored ciphers for each of the predetermined discrete areas to determine if each identifying cipher in each predetermined discrete area matches a corresponding stored cipher for each of the respective predetermined discrete areas; and providing the service relating to the article of clothing in response to determining that each identifying cipher in each of the predetermined discrete areas matches the corresponding stored cipher for each of the respective predetermined discrete areas.

Claims (52)

1. A method of providing a service related to an article of clothing, comprising:

providing a machine-readable identifier on an exterior surface of an article of clothing, the machine-readable identifier comprising a digitally printed image having a plurality of predefined discrete areas, and wherein the image includes a cipher at each of the plurality of predefined discrete areas, the cipher comprising at least one of a symbol, a color, or a geometric shape, and wherein the ciphers from the plurality of predefined discrete areas encode a plurality of bits of data;

receiving a scan of the machine-readable identifier from a user;

extracting the ciphers from the received scan, wherein the plurality of bits of data from the extracted ciphers uniquely identifies the article of clothing;

determining one or more attributes of the article of clothing from the plurality of bits of data;

displaying the one or more determined attributes to the user, wherein the one or more attributes includes at least one of: an authenticity, a manufacturing history, or an ownership history; and

wherein determining the one or more attributes of the article of clothing from the extracted cipher includes retrieving the one or more attributes from a distributed blockchain ledger.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the article of clothing is an article of footwear comprising an upper and a sole structure;

wherein providing the machine-readable identifier on the article of clothing includes digitally printing the digitally printed image on the exterior surface of the upper of the article of footwear the digitally printed image comprising a unique graphical design; and

wherein receiving the scan of the machine-readable identifier from the user includes receiving a scan of the digitally printed image.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the unique graphical design includes a design comprising a conductive ink; and

wherein the scan is an electrical or electromagnetic scan of the conductive ink.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the article of clothing is an article of footwear comprising an upper and a sole structure;

providing the machine-readable identifier on the article of clothing includes providing a unique magnetic signature within a foam of the sole structure; and

receiving the scan of the machine-readable identifier from the user includes receiving a scan of the magnetic signature from the user.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the [[machine-readable identifier]] plurality of bits of data is a private key for a digital wallet, the private key is operative to gain access to a cryptographically secured token that is uniquely registered on the distributed blockchain ledger, and wherein the article of clothing functions as the wallet and embodies the private key.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising unlocking a digital collectible from the received scan of the machine-readable identifier.

7. A method of providing a service related to an article of clothing, comprising:

providing a machine-readable identifier on an exterior surface of an article of clothing, the machine-readable identifier comprising a digitally printed image having a plurality of predefined discrete areas, and wherein the image includes a cipher at each of the plurality of predefined discrete areas, the cipher comprising at least one of a symbol, a color, or a geometric shape, and wherein the ciphers from the plurality of predefined discrete areas encode a plurality of bits of data;

receiving a scan of the machine-readable identifier from a user;

extracting the ciphers from the received scan, wherein the plurality of bits of data from the extracted ciphers uniquely identifies the article of clothing;

determining one or more attributes of the article of clothing from the plurality of bits of data;

displaying the one or more determined attributes to the user, wherein the one or more attributes includes at least one of: an authenticity, a manufacturing history, or an ownership history; and

wherein the article of clothing is an article of footwear comprising an upper and a sole structure;

wherein providing the machine-readable identifier on the article of clothing includes:

digitally printing the digitally printed image on the exterior surface of the upper of the article of footwear the digitally printed image comprising a unique graphical design; and

providing a unique magnetic signature within a foam of the sole structure;

wherein receiving the scan of the machine-readable identifier from the user includes:

receiving a first scan of the unique graphical design from the user; and

receiving a second scan of the unique magnetic signature from the user;

wherein extracting the cipher from the received scan includes:

extracting a first cipher from the first scan of the unique graphical design; and

extracting a second cipher from the second scan of the magnetic signature;

the method further comprising:

determining the authenticity of the article of footwear via the first cipher and the second cipher; and

returning an indication of the authenticity to the user.

8. A method of providing a service related to an article of clothing, comprising:

providing a machine-readable identifier on an exterior surface of an article of clothing, the machine-readable identifier comprising a digitally printed image having a plurality of predefined discrete areas, and wherein the image includes a cipher at each of the plurality of predefined discrete areas, the cipher comprising at least one of a symbol, a color, or a geometric shape;

retrieving a predetermined stored cipher for each of the predetermined discrete areas each corresponding to one of the plurality of predetermined discrete areas;

comparing the identifying ciphers of each of the predetermined discrete areas with the predetermined stored ciphers for each of the predetermined discrete areas to determine if each identifying cipher in each of the predetermined discrete areas matches a corresponding stored cipher for each of the respective predetermined discrete areas;

providing the service relating to the article of clothing in response to determining that each identifying cipher in each of the predetermined discrete areas matches the corresponding stored cipher for each of the respective predetermined discrete areas; and

wherein the service related to the article of clothing includes enabling access to a blockchain ledger entry, the blockchain ledger entry includes at least one product attribute, the at least one product attribute is an attribute of the article of clothing, the at least one product attribute includes attribute data about one of: where the product was made, how the product was made, or sustainability information about the article of clothing.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein providing the service includes determining that the article of clothing is authentic in response to determining that each identifying cipher in each predetermined discrete area matches the corresponding stored cipher for each of the respective predetermined discrete areas.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein providing the service includes enabling access to a database, the database includes attribute data relating to at least one product attribute, and the at least one product attribute is an attribute of the article of clothing.
