Automatic medication delivery tracking
Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for tracking delivery of medication. In one aspect, a medication delivery tracking device can interface with and be physically placed on a medication delivery pen device. The medication delivery tracking device can detect an occurrence of a delivery of a medication by the medication delivery pen device. In some implementations, the medication delivery tracking device can detect a dose amount of the medication delivered by the medication delivery pen device.
1. A system for tracking medication delivery, comprising:
an application configured to run on a mobile communication device, the application configured to track medication delivery by a medication delivery pen; and
an attachment device configured to pair with the mobile communication device, the attachment device including:
a cap configured to removably attach to the medication delivery pen to releasably cover a needle of the medication delivery pen;
a sensor configured to detect removal of the cap from the medication delivery pen;
a memory storing a stored dose amount corresponding to a pre-determined dose amount received from the mobile communication device; and
a data processing unit configured to communicate with the mobile communication device and transmit the stored dose amount to the mobile communication device in response to the sensor detecting removal of the cap from the medication delivery pen,
wherein the pre-determined dose amount is set on the application running on the mobile communication device and transmitted from the mobile communication device to the attachment device for storage in the memory, and
wherein the pre-determined dose amount is adjustable on the application running on the mobile communication device and transmitted from the mobile communication device to the attachment device for updating the stored dose amount stored in the memory of the attachment device.
2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the sensor is an electromechanical switch.
3. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the mobile communication device is configured to securely pair with the attachment device.
4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the application running on the mobile communication device is configured to track delivery of long acting insulin.
5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the mobile communication device is a smartphone, a tablet, a wearable computing device including a smartwatch or smartglasses, or one or more computers networked in a communication network through the Internet.
6. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the application running on the mobile communication device is configured to enable adjustment of the pre-determined dose amount after the pre-determined dose amount transmitted by the data processing unit of the attachment device is received by the mobile communication device.
7. A system for tracking medication delivery, comprising:
an application configured to run on a mobile communication device, the application configured to track medication delivery by a medication delivery pen; and
an attachment device configured to pair with the mobile communication device, the attachment device including:
a cap configured to removably attach to the medication delivery pen to releasably cover a needle of the medication delivery pen;
a sensor configured to detect removal of the cap from the medication delivery pen;
a dose input configured to receive a user-input dose amount; and
a data processing unit configured to communicate with the paired mobile communication device and transmit the user-input dose amount to the paired mobile communication device in response to the sensor detecting removal of the cap from the medication delivery pen,
wherein the application running on the mobile communication device is configured to store, in a memory of the mobile communication device, the user-input dose amount received from the data processing unit of the attachment device.
8. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the sensor is an electromechanical switch.
9. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the user-input dose amount stored in the memory of the mobile communication device is adjustable via the application running on the mobile communication device.
10. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the mobile communication device is configured to securely pair with the attachment device.
11. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the application running on the mobile communication device is configured to track delivery of long acting insulin.
12. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the mobile communication device is a smartphone, a tablet, a wearable computing device including a smartwatch or smartglasses, or one or more computers networked in a communication network through the Internet.
13. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the application running on the mobile communication device is configured to enable overriding of the user-input dose amount stored in the memory of the mobile communication device.
14. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the dose input is a dose dial.
