Abstract

A connected oven, including a set of in-cavity sensors and a processor configured to automatically identify foodstuff within the cooking cavity, based on the sensor measurements; and automatically operate the heating element based on the foodstuff identity.

Claims (47)

1. A connected oven, comprising:

an oven body defining a cooking cavity, the oven body comprising an oven base and an oven top;

an oven door mounted to the oven body, the oven door comprising a transparent window coextensive with at least part of the cooking cavity, the transparent window optically connecting an ambient environment with the cooking cavity;

an optical sensor defining a field of view, the optical sensor mounted to the oven body with the field of view directed toward the cooking cavity;

a heating element mounted to the oven body;

a user interface unit comprising a touchscreen overlaying a display, the user interface unit defining a broad face, the user interface unit mounted to the oven door and arranged with a normal vector to the broad face intersecting the cooking cavity; and

a processing system connected to the optical sensor, the heating element, and the user interface unit, the processing system configured to:

determine a classification for foodstuff within the cooking cavity based on an image recorded by the optical sensor; and

operate the heating element based on the classification.

2. The connected oven of claim 1 , further comprising convection fans mounted to the oven body and controlled by the processing system.

3. The connected oven of claim 2 , wherein the processing system is configured to dynamically control heating element and convection fan operation to achieve a target cooking cavity temperature.

4. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the heating elements comprise carbon fiber heating elements.

5. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the oven body comprises thermal insulation.

6. The connected oven of claim 5 , wherein the thermal insulation comprises foam insulation.

7. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the optical sensor is mounted along a corner of the oven body.

8. The connected oven of claim 7 , wherein the optical sensor is arranged in an upper region of the oven body.

9. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the optical sensor is mounted to a wall of the oven body.

10. The connected oven of claim 1 , further comprising a wireless communication system connected to the processing system.

11. The connected oven of claim 10 , wherein the wireless communication system comprises a cellular communication system.

12. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the processing system receives cooking instructions from a remote system.

13. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the oven is remotely controllable by a user device.

14. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the processing system determines the classification using a neural network.

15. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the optical sensor comprises a stereocamera system.

16. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the optical sensor comprises a wide-angle camera.

17. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the oven door comprises a first and second panel offset by a gap, wherein the transparent window is defined by aligned transparent regions of the first and second panels.

18. The connected oven of claim 7 , wherein the transparent regions comprise a coating.

19. The connected oven of claim 1 , wherein the display is opaque.

20. A connected oven, comprising:

an oven body defining a cooking cavity;

an oven door mounted to the oven body and comprising a window optically connecting an ambient environment with the cooking cavity;

an optical sensor mounted to an upper region of the oven body and arranged with a field of view directed toward the cooking cavity;

cooking elements, comprising:

heating elements mounted to a top of the oven body;

convection elements mounted to a back of the oven body;

a touchscreen mounted to the window; and

a processing system connected to the optical sensor, the cooking elements, and the touchscreen, the processing system configured to:

classify food within the cooking cavity based on an image recorded by the optical sensor; and

operate at least one of the cooking elements based on the classification.

21. The connected oven of claim 20 , wherein the optical sensor is mounted along a corner of the oven body.

22. The connected oven of claim 21 , wherein the optical sensor is mounted to a side of the oven body.

23. The connected oven of claim 22 , wherein the optical sensor is further arranged with the field of view directed toward a front of the cooking cavity.

24. The connected oven of claim 20 , wherein the oven door comprises a dual-pane door defining an airgap.

25. The connected oven of claim 20 , wherein the optical sensor comprises a stereocamera system.

26. The connected oven of claim 20 , wherein the optical sensor comprises a wide angle camera.

27. The connected oven of claim 20 , wherein the heating elements comprise carbon fiber heating elements.

28. The connected oven of claim 20 , wherein the processing system is configured to classify the food using a machine learning method.

29. The connected oven of claim 20 , wherein the window substantially coextensive with the cooking cavity.
