Abstract

The present invention provides a weighted article for assisting sleep, wherein the weighted article includes heating and cooling means. The weighted article is perforated by a series of channels, which contribute to the weight of the weighted article and allow the passage of a fluid that is continuously pumped throughout the weighted article while the weighted article is in use. The weighted article is connected to a control unit including means to thermoelectrical heat or cool the fluid such that a user of the weighted article is able to increase or decrease their body temperature.

Claims (44)

1. A thermally regulated article, comprising:

a first cover layer and a second cover layer;

a weighted layer attached to the first cover layer; and

a thermally controlled layer disposed between and attached to the weighted layer and the second cover layer;

wherein thermally regulated fluid flows into and out of the thermally controlled layer;

wherein the weighted layer includes a plurality of weight elements; and

wherein the thermally controlled layer includes two sublayers and a plurality of shapes, wherein the two sublayers are welded together at the edges of the plurality of shapes and at the edges of the two sublayers, and wherein the thermally regulated fluid flows between the two sublayers of the thermally controlled layer.

2. The thermally regulated article of claim 1 , wherein the thermally controlled layer weighs between 5 and 50 lbs.

3. The thermally regulated article of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of weight elements comprises at least one element made from glass, polypropylene, and/or steel.

4. The thermally regulated article of claim 1 , wherein the weighted layer weighs between 10 and 15 lbs.

5. The thermally regulated article of claim 1 , wherein the first cover layer and the second cover layer each comprise cotton, fleece, polyester, mesh, jacquard, jersey, linen, sateen, velvet, and/or chenille.

6. The thermally regulated article of claim 1 , wherein the thermally controlled layer is connected to a control unit, wherein the control unit heats or cools the thermally regulated fluid.

7. The thermally regulated article of claim 1 , wherein the thermally regulated fluid is water.

8. A system for thermally regulating an article, comprising:

a control unit, connected to at least one supply line and at least one return line;

a weighted article, comprising:

a first cover layer and a second cover layer;

a weighted layer attached to the first cover layer; and

a thermally controlled layer disposed between and attached to the weighted layer and the second cover layer;

wherein thermally regulated fluid flows into and out of the thermally controlled layer;

wherein the weighted layer includes a plurality of weight elements;

wherein the control unit heats or cools the thermally regulated fluid;

wherein the thermally controlled layer is connected to the at least one supply line and the at least one return line; and

wherein the thermally controlled layer includes two sublayers and a plurality of shapes, wherein the two sublayers are welded together at the edges of the plurality of shapes and at the edges of the two sublayers, and wherein the thermally regulated fluid flows between the two sublayers of the thermally controlled layer.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the thermally controlled layer weighs between 5 and 25 lbs.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of weight elements comprises at least one element made from glass, polypropylene, and/or steel.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the weighted layer weighs between 10 and 15 lbs.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the first cover layer and the second cover layer each comprise cotton, fleece, polyester, mesh, jacquard, jersey, linen, sateen, velvet, and/or chenille.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the at least one supply line includes a first supply line and a second supply line, wherein the at least one return line includes a first return line and a second return line, wherein the first supply line and the first return line are connected to the thermally controlled layer, and wherein the second supply line and the second return line are connected to a separate device.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the thermally regulated fluid is water.

15. A system for thermally regulating an article, comprising:

a control unit, connected to at least one supply line and at least one return line;

a weighted article, comprising:

a first cover layer and a second cover layer;

a thermally controlled layer disposed between and attached to the first cover layer and the second cover layer; and

a weighted layer;

wherein thermally regulated fluid flows into and out of the thermally controlled layer; and

wherein the weighted layer includes a plurality of weight elements;

wherein the control unit heats or cools the thermally regulated fluid;

wherein the thermally controlled layer is connected to the at least one supply line and the at least one return line;

wherein the at least one supply line includes a first supply line and a second supply line, wherein the at least one return line includes a first return line and a second return line, wherein the first supply line and the first return line are connected to the thermally controlled layer, and wherein the second supply line and the second return line are connected to a separate device; and

wherein the thermally controlled layer includes two sublayers and a plurality of shapes, wherein the two sublayers are welded together at the edges of the plurality of shapes and at the edges of the two sublayers, and wherein the thermally regulated fluid flows between the two sublayers of the thermally controlled layer.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the thermally controlled layer weighs between 5 and 25 lbs.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the thermally controlled layer includes at least one sealed pocket, wherein the at least one sealed pocket contains the plurality of weight elements.
