Abstract

Disclosed herein is a cooking system for cooking food, the system including a housing having a hollow interior, a lid movable relative to the housing, at least one heating element associated with one of the housing and the lid, wherein the cooking system is operable in a plurality of modes including a conductive cooking mode and a convective cooking mode, wherein in the conductive cooking mode the cooking system is operable as a conductive cooker and in the convective cooking mode the cooking system is operable as a convection cooker.

Claims (35)

1. A cooking system for cooking food, the cooking system comprising:

a housing defining a hollow chamber configured to receive a food container, said housing having an upper portion defining an opening to said hollow chamber;

a food container having a hollow container interior and being positionable within said hollow chamber, wherein an end of said food container extends above said upper portion of said housing when said container is installed within said hollow chamber;

a controller configured to operate the cooking system in a plurality of modes including a pressure cooking mode and a convective cooking mode, wherein in said pressure cooking mode the cooking system is operable at a pressure of at least 40 kPA, and in said convective cooking mode a fan is operable to circulate air throughout said food container;

a lid attachable to said housing and moveable between a first position that covers said upper portion of said housing and said opening to said hollow chamber when said food container is installed within said hollow chamber and a second position where said lid does not cover said opening to said hollow chamber; and

at least one heating element disposed in said lid.

2. The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein said lid is configured to seal against and about said end of said food container, sealing said container interior, when said food container is installed within said hollow chamber and said cooking system is operating in said pressure cooking mode.

3. The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein said lid abuts said housing about a substantial entirety of said upper surface thereof when said lid is in said closed position.

4. The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein said housing is configured to surround said food container around a substantial entirety of at least a portion thereof when said food container is received within said hollow chamber.

The cooking system of claim 1 , further including an insert positionable in said hollow container interior, said container extending above an upper extent of said insert when said insert is installed within said hollow container interior and said container is installed within said hollow chamber.

6. The cooking system of claim 1 , wherein said lid is moveably attached to said housing, wherein when in said second position said lid is spaced away from said opening to said hollow chamber.

7. A cooking system for cooking food, the cooking system comprising:

a housing defining a hollow chamber configured to receive a food container, said housing having an upper portion defining an opening to said hollow chamber;

a food container having a hollow container interior and being positionable within said hollow chamber, wherein a lower surface of said container is a domed surface;

a controller configured to operate the cooking system in a plurality of modes including a pressure cooking mode and a convective cooking mode, wherein in said pressure cooking mode the cooking system is operable at a pressure of at least 40 kPA, and in said convective cooking mode a fan is operable to circulate air throughout said food container;

a lid attachable to said housing and moveable between a first position that covers said upper portion of said housing and said opening to said hollow chamber when said food container is installed within said hollow chamber and a second position where said lid does not cover said opening to said hollow chamber; and

at least one heating element disposed in said lid.

8. The cooking system of claim 7 , wherein said lid is configured to seal against and about said end of said food container, sealing said container interior, when said food container is installed within said hollow chamber and said cooking system is operating in said pressure cooking mode.

9. The cooking system of claim 7 , further including an insert positionable in said hollow container interior.

10. The cooking system of claim 7 , further including an air diffusing structure disposed at a bottom of said insert.

11. The cooking system of claim 9 , wherein said air diffusing structure supports said insert on said bottom surface of said container.

12. The cooking system of claim 10 , wherein said air diffusing structure includes a lower facing surface that is shaped to conform to the domed surface of said container.

13. The cooking system of claim 7 , wherein said lower surface that is said domed surface is an upward facing surface that is curved upward in a direction of an upper opening of said food container.

14. The cooking system of claim 7 , wherein a curvature defining said domed surface stretches across an entirety of said lower surface of said container.

15. A cooking system for cooking food, the cooking system comprising:

a housing defining a hollow chamber configured to receive a food container, the housing having an upper portion defining an opening to the hollow chamber;

a food container having a hollow container interior and being positionable within the hollow chamber, wherein a lower surface of the container is a domed surface that stretches across an entirety of the lower surface;

an air diffusing structure that includes a lower facing surface that is shaped to conform to the domed surface of the container;

a controller configured to operate the cooking system in a plurality of modes including a pressure cooking mode and a convective cooking mode, wherein in the pressure cooking mode the cooking system is operable at a pressure of at least 40 kPA, and in the convective cooking mode a fan is operable to circulate hot air throughout said food container;

a lid attachable to the housing and moveable between a first position that covers the upper portion of the housing and the opening to the hollow chamber when the food container is installed within the hollow chamber and a second position where the lid does not cover the opening to the hollow chamber; and

a heating element disposed in said lid.

16. The cooking system of claim 15 , wherein the lid is configured to seal against the end of the food container, sealing the container interior, when the food container is installed within the hollow chamber and the cooking system is operating in the pressure cooking mode.

17. The cooking system of claim 15 , wherein the lid abuts the housing about a substantial entirety of the upper surface thereof when the lid is in the closed position.

18. The cooking system of claim 15 , wherein the housing is configured to surround the food container around a substantial entirety of at least a portion thereof when the food container is received within the hollow chamber.

19. The cooking system of claim 15 , wherein the one heating element comprises a first heating element and further comprising a second heating element positioned in the housing.
