Mattresses including spacer fabric and related methods
A mattress assembly includes a base core layer and an inner core located over the base core layer. The inner core includes coil springs. The mattress assembly also includes a side panel assembly located around a perimeter of the inner core. The side panel assembly includes a spacer fabric located over and transverse to the base core layer. The spacer fabric includes a first knit layer, a second knit layer, and an inner fibrous material located therebetween. Methods of forming the mattress assembly are disclosed.
1. A mattress assembly, comprising:
a base;
coil springs over the base; and
a side panel around at least a portion of the coil springs and comprising a spacer fabric including at least one knit layer having a greater elasticity along a vertical axis of the side panel than along a lateral axis of the side panel.
2. The mattress assembly of claim 1 , wherein the at least one knit layer comprises a first knit layer and a second knit layer superimposed relative to one another.
3. The side panel assembly of claim 2 , wherein the spacer fabric further includes a fibrous material between the first knit layer and the second knit layer.
4. The mattress assembly of claim 1 , further comprising:
at least one elastomeric cushion over the coil springs.
5. The mattress assembly of claim 4 , further comprising:
a stabilizing material between the at least one elastomeric cushion and the coil springs.
6. The mattress assembly of claim 5 , wherein the stabilizing material is secured to a lower surface of the at least one elastomeric cushion.
7. The mattress assembly of claim 4 , further comprising:
an upper layer between the at least one elastomeric cushion and the coil springs.
8. The mattress assembly of claim 7 , wherein a lower edge of the side panel abuts an upper surface of the base and an upper edge of the side panel abuts a lower surface of the upper layer.
9. The mattress assembly of claim 4 , further comprising:
a top layer over the at least one elastomeric cushion.
10. The mattress assembly of claim 4 , further comprising:
a cover over the at least one elastomeric cushion and around at least a portion of the side panel.
11. The mattress assembly of claim 10 , wherein the side panel is secured to an interior of a side panel of the cover.
12. A mattress assembly, comprising:
a base;
coil springs over the base;
an upper layer over the coil springs; and
a side panel around at least a portion of the coil springs and comprising a spacer fabric including at least one knit layer having a greater elasticity along a vertical axis of the side panel than along a lateral axis of the side panel.
13. The mattress assembly of claim 12 , wherein a lower edge of the side panel abuts an upper surface of the base and an upper edge of the side panel abuts a lower surface of the upper layer.
14. The mattress assembly of claim 12 , further comprising:
a cover over the coil springs, the upper layer, and the side panel.
15. The mattress assembly of claim 12 , wherein the side panel is secured to interiors of sides of the cover.
16. The mattress assembly of claim 12 , further comprising:
at least one elastomeric cushion over the upper layer.
17. A method for assembling a mattress, comprising:
placing coil springs on a base;
positioning a spacer fabric with a lower edge thereof contacting a periphery of the base, the spacer fabric at least partially surrounding the coil springs, the spacer fabric having a greater elasticity along a height of the spacer fabric, perpendicular to the base, than along a lateral extent of the spacer fabric, perpendicular to the height of the spacer fabric; and
placing an upper layer over the coil springs.
18. The method of claim 17 , wherein positioning the spacer fabric comprises positioning a spacer fabric including a first layer, a second layer, and filler between the first layer and the second layer.
19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising:
placing at least one elastomeric cushion over the coil springs.
20. The method of claim 17 , wherein placing the upper layer over the coil springs comprises placing the upper layer on an upper edge of the spacer fabric.
