Abstract

Methods and apparatus for establishing network presence. In an embodiment, a method is provided for determining a presence score. The method includes capturing an image of a QR code displayed on a secondary device, capturing a sound clip of a sound signal reproduced on the secondary device, and transmitting the image and the sound clip to a server. The method also includes receiving a presence score determined from at least one of a comparison of the QR code to the image and a comparison of the sound signal to the sound clip.

Claims (36)

1. A method for establishing a presence score of a user, the method comprising:

capturing an image of a QR code, generated by a server;

capturing a sound clip of a sound signal, generated by the server;

transmitting the image and the sound clip to the server, wherein a comparison of the image and the QR code yields a QR matching indicator and a comparison of the sound clip and the sound signal yields a sound signal matching indicator; and

receiving a presence score for the user, based on a combination of the QR matching indicator and the sound signal matching indicator.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transmitting and said receiving are performed over at least one of a wired network and a wireless network.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a request to initiate presence scoring.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting to said server a resource identifier that identifies active resources providing real-time communication to the server.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising monitoring an updated resource identifier that identifies a change to said resources, wherein the change comprises switching from providing a live stream from a resource to replaying a stored file.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising transmitting to said server said updated resource identifier.

7. The method of claim 5 , further comprising receiving an updated presence score based on said updated resource identifier.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the QR matching indicator comprises a numerical range corresponding to matching level of the QR code generated at the server and the captured image of the QR code.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sound signal matching indicator comprises a numerical range corresponding to the matching level of the sound signal generated at the server and the captured sound clip.

10. Apparatus for establishing a presence score of a user, the apparatus comprising:

one or more processors configured to:

capture an image of a QR code, generated by a server;

capture a sound clip of a sound signal, generated by the server;

transmit said image and said sound clip to the server, wherein a comparison of the image and the QR code yields a QR matching indicator and a comparison of the sound clip and the sound signal yields a sound signal matching indicator; and

receive a presence score for the user, based on a combination of the QR matching indicator and the sound signal matching indicator.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein said one or more processors transmits and receives over at least one of a wired network and a wireless network.

12. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein said one or more processors receives a request to initiate presence scoring.

13. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to transmit to the server, a resource identifier that identifies active resources providing real-time communication to the server.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein said one or more processors determines an updated resource identifier that identifies a change to said resources, wherein the change comprises switching from providing a live stream from a resource to replaying a stored file.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein said one or more processors transmits said updated resource identifier.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein said one or more processors receives an updated presence score based on said updated resource identifier.

17. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising a camera that captures said image.

18. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising a microphone that captures said sound clip.

19. A non-transitory computer readable medium on which are stored program instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to establish a presence score of a user by performing operations of:

capturing an image of a QR code, generated by a server;

capturing a sound clip of a sound signal, generated by the server;

transmitting said image and said sound clip to the server, wherein a comparison of the image and the QR code yields a QR matching indicator and a comparison of the sound clip and the sound signal yields a sound signal matching indicator; and

receiving a presence score for the user, based on a combination of the QR matching indicator and the sound signal matching indicator.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to perform operations of:

determining an updated resource identifier that identifies a change to resources, wherein the change comprises switching from providing a live stream from a resource to replaying a stored file;

transmitting said updated resource identifier; and

receiving an updated score based on said updated resource identifier.
