Abstract

Microbiota restoration therapy (MRT) compositions (e.g., oral MRT compositions) and methods for manufacturing MRT compositions are disclosed. An example method for manufacturing an MRT composition may include collecting a stool sample, purifying the stool sample to form a purified sample, stabilizing the purified sample to form a stabilized sample, converting the stabilized sample to a solid, adding one or more additives and/or excipients to the solid to form a treatment composition, and encapsulating the treatment composition.

Claims (29)

1. A packaged pharmaceutical product, comprising:

a package;

one or more capsules disposed in the package; and

a lyophilized material disposed within each of the one or more capsules, the lyophilized material comprising:

fecal microbiota, and

a lyophilization excipient, wherein the lyophilization excipient comprises polyethylene glycol, and one or more selected from trehalose, sucrose, and glycerin.

2. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the package comprises a blister pack.

3. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the package includes an oxygen scavenger disposed in the package.

4. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the package includes a desiccant disposed in the package.

5. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the package comprises a metallized polyester/polyethylene bonded film.

6. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the package has a vapor transmission rate of 0.02 gr/100 in 2 in 24 hours.

7. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the package has an oxygen transmission rate of 0.0402 gr/100 in 2 in 24 hours.

8. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the lyophilized material comprises a lyophilization excipient comprising two or more selected from trehalose, sucrose, and glycerin.

9. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 1 , wherein the lyophilized material comprises a lyophilization excipient comprising trehalose, sucrose, and glycerin.

10. A packaged pharmaceutical product, comprising:

a metallized film package;

a plurality of capsules disposed in the metallized film package; and

a lyophilized material disposed within each of the capsules, the lyophilized material comprising:

fecal microbiota, and

a lyophilization excipient, wherein the lyophilization excipient comprises polyethylene glycol, and one or more selected from trehalose, sucrose, and glycerin.

11. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 10 , wherein the lyophilized material comprises a lyophilization excipient comprising two or more selected from trehalose, sucrose, and glycerin.

12. The packaged pharmaceutical product of claim 10 , wherein the lyophilized material comprises a lyophilization excipient comprising trehalose, sucrose, and glycerin.

13. A microbiota restoration therapy composition, comprising:

a capsule; and

a lyophilized material disposed within the capsule, the lyophilized material comprising fecal microbiota, and a lyophilization excipient comprising polyethylene glycol, trehalose, sucrose, and glycerin.

14. The microbiota restoration therapy composition of claim 13 , wherein the lyophilized material has a glass transition temperature greater than 30° C.

15. The microbiota restoration therapy composition of claim 13 , wherein the lyophilized material has a glass transition temperature in the range of 30-75° C.

16. The microbiota restoration therapy composition of claim 13 , wherein the capsule is disposed in a blister package.

17. The microbiota restoration therapy composition of claim 13 , wherein the capsule is disposed in a metallized film package.
