Abstract

An ink composition is provided. The composition includes a binder material and at least one narrow band emission phosphor being uniformly dispersed throughout the composition, wherein the narrow band emission phosphor has a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ , and a mixture thereof. A device is also provided.

Claims (35)

1. An ink composition comprising a binder material and at least one narrow band emission phosphor being uniformly dispersed throughout the composition, the narrow band emission phosphor having a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ , and a mixture thereof, wherein the binder material comprises at least one of an epoxy-based thermoset binder precursor, a photoresist material or a UV curable precursor.

2. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the binder material comprises a UV-curable precursor material with mono-functional groups, bi-functional groups or multi-functional groups.

3. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one narrow band emission phosphor has a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 10 μm.

4. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one narrow band emission phosphor is a combination of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor and a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ .

5. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition has a viscosity ranging from at least 15 cP at 25° C. to less than 20 cP at 50° C.

6. The ink composition according to claim 1 further comprising a solvent.

The ink composition according to claim 6 , wherein the solvent is selected from the group consisting of: Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate, dibutyl phosphate, ethylene glycol phenyl ether methacrylate, isobutyric acid, isobornyl acrylate, isopropanol, propylene glycol methyl ether acetate, polypropylene glycol dimethacrylate, terpineol, triethylene glycol dimethacrylate, water, 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate, 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propanol, cyclohexanone, diethylene glycol methyl ether, toluene and mixtures thereof.

8. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises quantum dot materials or color filter pigments capable of absorbing blue light.

9. The ink composition according to claim 1 further comprising one of more additives selected from the group consisting of: a dispersant, a rheology modifier, an electrolyte, metal oxide nanoparticles, scattering particles and mixtures thereof.

10. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the binder material comprises metal oxide nanoparticles.

11. The ink composition according to claim 9 , wherein the rheology modifier comprises a gelator.

12. The ink composition according to claim 9 , wherein the scattering particles have a particle size greater than 1 μm and are selected from the group consisting of: Al 2 O 3 , zirconium oxide, indium tin oxide, cerium oxide, tantalum oxide, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and a combination thereof.

13. The ink composition according to claim 9 , wherein the metal oxide nanoparticles are selected from the group consisting of: zirconium oxide, indium tin oxide, cerium oxide, tantalum oxide, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and a combination thereof.

The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one narrow band emission phosphor comprises a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor selected from the group consisting of γ-Ba 2 UO 2 (PO 4 ) 2 , Ba[Mg,Zn]UO 2 (PO 4 ) 2 , Ba 6 Al 5 P 5 O 26 :U 6+ , Ba(UO 2 )P 2 O 7 , Ba 3 (UO 2 ) 2 P 2 O 7 (PO 4 ) 2 , and combinations thereof.

15. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one narrow band emission phosphor comprises a red phosphor of formula I

A x (MF y ):Mn +4   (I)

wherein

A is Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, or a combination thereof;

M is Si, Ge, Sn, Ti, Zr, Al, Ga, In, Sc, Hf, Y, La, Nb, Ta, Bi, Gd, or a combination thereof;

x is an absolute value of a charge of the MF y ion; and

y is 5, 6 or 7.

16. The ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one narrow band emission phosphor comprises K 2 SiF 6 :Mn 4+ or Na 2 SiF 6 :Mn 4+ .

17. The ink composition according to claim 15 , wherein the binder material has a higher refractive index than the red phosphor.

18. The ink composition according to claim 15 , wherein the red phosphor is at least partially coated with a surface coating comprising a metal fluoride or a silica.

19. The ink composition according to claim 18 , wherein the metal fluoride is selected from the group consisting of MgF 2 , CaF 2 , SrF 2 , BaF 2 , AgF, ZnF 2 , AlF 3 , and a combination thereof.

20. A device comprising an LED light source optically coupled and/or radiationally connected to the ink composition according to claim 1 , wherein the ink composition is cured or dried.

21. A backlight apparatus comprising the device according to claim 20 .

22. A lighting apparatus comprising the device according to claim 20 .

23. A television comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 21 .

24. A mobile phone comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 21 .

25. A computer monitor comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 21 .

26. The device according to claim 20 , wherein the LED light source comprises a mini-LED or a micro-LED.

27. The ink composition according to claim 2 , wherein the UV-curable precursor material comprises acrylic resins, acrylate resins or urethane-based materials.

An ink composition comprising a binder material and at least one narrow band emission phosphor being uniformly dispersed throughout the composition, the narrow band emission phosphor having a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to less than about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ , and a mixture thereof, wherein the red-emitting phosphor is at least partially coated with a surface coating comprising a metal fluoride or a silica, and wherein the ink composition is for printing, has a viscosity ranging from at least 15 cP at 25° C. to less than 20 cP at 50° C. and a sedimentation speed of 1.00 mm per hour or less.

A method for preparing the ink composition according to claim 1 , the method comprising combining a binder material and at least one narrow band emission phosphor, wherein the narrow band emission phosphor is uniformly dispersed throughout the composition, the narrow band emission phosphor having a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ , and a mixture thereof, wherein the binder material comprises at least one of an epoxy-based thermoset binder precursor, a photoresist material or a UV curable precursor.
