Abstract

A system comprises time-tracking circuitry and phase parameter generation circuitry. The time-tracking circuitry is operable to generate a time-tracking value corresponding to time elapsed since a reference time. The phase parameter generation circuitry operable to: receive the time-tracking value; receive a control signal that conveys a frequency parameter corresponding to a desired frequency of an oscillating signal; and generate a plurality of phase parameters used for generation of an oscillating signal, wherein the generation of the plurality of phase parameters is based on the time-tracking value and the frequency parameter such that the oscillating signal maintains phase continuity across changes in the frequency parameter.

Claims (27)

1. A system comprising:

an oscillator operable to generate an oscillating signal according to a plurality of phase parameters, wherein:

the plurality of phase parameters are generated according to a time-tracking value and a frequency;

the time-tracking value corresponds to time elapsed since a reference time; and

the oscillating signal maintains phase continuity across changes in the frequency.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the oscillator comprises a register operable to store the time-tracking value and increment the time-tracking value on each cycle of a clock.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the oscillator comprises a hardware gate array.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the oscillator comprises a coordinate rotation circuit.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the oscillator is operable to alter the plurality of phase parameters over time to change the frequency.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of phase parameters is generated according to a frequency offset signal.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the oscillator is operable to adjust the frequency offset signal according to a feedback signal.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the oscillator is operable to generate the frequency.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the oscillator is operable to alter the frequency according to a feedback signal.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of phase parameters has a phase offset relative to others of the phase parameters.

11. A system comprising:

a function generator circuit operable to generate a plurality of phase parameters according to a time-tracking value and a frequency, wherein:

the time-tracking value corresponds to time elapsed since a reference time; and

the plurality of phase parameters maintain phase continuity across changes in the frequency.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the function generator circuit comprises a register operable to store the time-tracking value and increment the time-tracking value on each cycle of a clock.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the function generator circuit is operable to generate an oscillating signal according to the phase parameter.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the function generator circuit comprises a coordinate rotation circuit.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the function generator circuit is operable to alter the phase parameter over time to change the frequency.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of phase parameters is generated according to a frequency offset signal.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the function generator circuit is operable to adjust the frequency offset signal according to a feedback signal.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the function generator circuit is operable to generate the frequency.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the function generator circuit is operable to alter the frequency according to a feedback signal.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein the function generator circuit is operable to change the frequency from a first value to a second value and then back to the first value.
