Abstract

A shoe includes: a heel portion; a toe portion; a sole portion; and an electrical assembly. The electrical assembly includes at least: a magnetometer configured to determine a direction of movement of the shoe; and an accelerometer configured to determine acceleration of the shoe. Direction and acceleration data are used to generate a display of a map indicating traversal of a route by a wearer of the shoe at user interface of a user device.

Claims (30)

1. A workout tracking shoe, comprising:

a wireless interface configured to connect to a watch device;

a magnetometer configured to continuously determine a direction of a foot relative to a magnetic field and generate timestamped direction chunks that comprise a timestamped orientation relative to the magnetic field during a workout; and

an accelerometer configured to determine an acceleration of the foot based on ground contact and generate step-based acceleration chunks that comprise an average acceleration between steps during the workout;

wherein the timestamped direction chunks and the step-based acceleration chunks are not used by the workout tracking shoe to calculate a segment chunk for dead reckoning and are transmitted to the watch device to calculate the segment chunk for the dead reckoning.

2. The workout tracking shoe of claim 1 , further comprising logic configured to generate supination or pronation data based on the timestamped direction chunks.

3. The workout tracking shoe of claim 1 , further comprising logic configured to generate supination or pronation data based on the ground contact.

4. The workout tracking shoe of claim 1 , further comprising logic configured to generate gait cycle data based on the timestamped direction chunks or the step-based acceleration chunks.

5. The workout tracking shoe of claim 1 , wherein the wireless interface is further configured to connect to a smart phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer after the workout.

6. A watch device, comprising:

a display;

a wireless interface configured to communicate with a connected shoe;

a processor; and

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising a plurality of instructions that are configured to, when executed by the processor, cause the watch device to:

obtain timestamped direction chunks that comprise a timestamped orientation relative to a magnetic field, from the connected shoe;

obtain step-based acceleration chunks that comprise an average acceleration between steps, from the connected shoe;

generate segment chunks based on the timestamped direction chunks and the step-based acceleration chunks; and

calculate a velocity and stride distance based on the segment chunks.

7. The watch device of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of instructions are further configured to, when executed by the processor, cause the watch device to evaluate problems in walking or running form.

8. A method of untethered movement tracking, comprising:

obtaining direction chunks that comprise a timestamped orientation relative to a magnetic field from a magnetometer of a first device during a workout;

obtaining acceleration chunks that comprise an average acceleration between steps from an accelerometer of the first device during the workout;

generating segment chunks based on the direction chunks and the acceleration chunks during the workout;

calculating a dead reckoning position based on the segment chunks; and

displaying a map after the workout at a second device based on the segment chunks, where the map indicates a route of a user during the workout.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the untethered movement tracking during the workout at the second device is not based on Global Positioning System (GPS) information.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising displaying a distance, a time, or a speed associated with the workout at the second device.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the segment chunks are generated at the first device.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the segment chunks are generated at the second device.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising providing the segment chunks to a third device after the workout.
