Abstract

An emergency lighting system including a mains power supply, an auxiliary power supply, a brown-out circuit, a plurality of lights including a first group of lights and a second group of lights, and a controller. The brown-out circuit is configured to extract input voltage information related to a voltage level of the mains power supply, and scale down an input voltage of the mains power supply to a DC voltage proportional to the voltage level. The controller is configured to control the plurality of lights. Wherein, power is provided from the mains power supply to the first group of lights and the second group of lights when the DC voltage is above a threshold, and power is provided from the auxiliary power supply to the first group of lights and not the second group of lights when the DC voltage is below the threshold.

Claims (29)

1. An emergency lighting system comprising:

a mains power supply;

an auxiliary power supply;

a brown-out circuit configured to extract input voltage information related to a voltage level of the mains power supply, wherein the brown-out circuit scales down an input voltage of the mains power supply to a DC voltage proportional to the voltage level;

a plurality of lights including a first group of lights and a second group of lights; and

a controller configured to

receive the DC voltage from the brown-out circuit, the DC voltage indicative of the voltage level of the mains power supply; and

control the first group of lights and the second group of lights based on the DC voltage;

wherein, power is provided from the mains power supply to the first group of lights and the second group of lights when the DC voltage is above a threshold, and power is provided from the auxiliary power supply to the first group of lights and not the second group of lights when the DC voltage is below the threshold.

2. The emergency lighting system of claim 1 , wherein the first group of lights are directed in a first direction and the second group of lights are directed in a second direction.

3. The emergency lighting system of claim 2 , wherein the first direction and the second direction are the same.

4. The emergency lighting system of claim 1 , wherein the first group of lights and the second group of lights are within a housing.

5. The emergency lighting system of claim 4 , wherein a charging circuit, an auxiliary power supply, a driver, a switching circuit, and the controller are within the housing.

6. The emergency lighting system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is communicatively coupled to a near-field communication device.

7. The emergency lighting system of claim 6 , wherein the controller receives operational and control parameters from a user via the near-field communication device.

8. A method of controlling an emergency lighting system, the method comprising:

receiving a mains power supply;

receiving an auxiliary power supply;

extracting, via a brown-out circuit, input voltage information related to a voltage level of the mains power supply, wherein the brown-out circuit scales down an input voltage of the mains power supply to a DC voltage proportional to the voltage level;

providing a plurality of lights including a first group of lights and a second group of lights;

receiving, via a controller, the DC voltage from the brown-out circuit, the DC voltage indicative of the voltage level of the mains power supply; and

controlling the first group of lights and the second group of lights based on the DC voltage;

wherein, power is provided from the mains power supply to the first group of lights and the second group of lights when the DC voltage is above a threshold, and power is provided from the auxiliary power supply to the first group of lights and not the second group of lights when the DC voltage is below the threshold.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first group of lights are directed in a first direction and the second group of lights are directed in a second direction.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first direction and the second direction are the same.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising providing the first group of lights and the second group of lights within a housing.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising providing a charging circuit, an auxiliary power supply, a driver, a switching circuit, and the controller within the housing.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising communicatively coupling the controller to a near-field communication device.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving, via the near-field communication device, operational and control parameters from a user.
