Abstract

A media distribution system includes an enterprise hub, which in turn includes a processor and memory, multiple media outlets, and multiple integrated services layers (ISLs) acting as intermediaries between the enterprise hub to the media outlets. A first media outlet is served by a single ISL, while a second media outlet is served redundantly by at least two ISLs.

Claims (58)

1. A media distribution system comprising:

an enterprise hub including a processor and memory;

a plurality of media outlets configured to broadcast media to a plurality of end-users, wherein the plurality of media outlets include transaction delivery systems, wherein each transaction delivery system includes both a traffic-and-billing system, and a content delivery system;

a plurality of integrated services layers (ISLs) coupling the enterprise hub to the plurality of media outlets;

a first media outlet of the plurality of media outlets served by a single ISL of the plurality of ISLs; and

a second media outlet of the plurality of media outlets served redundantly by at least two ISLs of the plurality of ISLs.

2. The media distribution system of claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of ISLs are configured to implement multidirectional gateways.

3. The media distribution system of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of ISLs are configured to:

receive broadcast instruction messages from the enterprise hub; and

transmit the broadcast instruction messages to at least one media outlet.

4. The media distribution system of claim 3 , wherein:

the broadcast instruction messages include preemption information.

5. The media distribution system of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of ISLs are configured to:

receive, from the media outlets, information associated with media playout; and

transmit the information associated with media playout to the enterprise hub.

6. The media distribution system of claim 1 , wherein:

at least one ISLs is incorporated into at least one media outlets.

7. The media distribution system of claim 1 , wherein:

at least one of the plurality of ISLs is configured to transmit broadcast instruction messages to another of the plurality of ISLs.

8. A method comprising:

transmitting a plurality of broadcast instruction messages from an enterprise hub to a plurality of devices implementing a plurality of integrated services layers (ISLs);

receiving a first broadcast instruction message by a single ISL of the plurality of ISLs;

transmitting the first broadcast instruction messages from the single ISL to a first media outlet of a plurality of media outlets configured to broadcast media to a plurality of end-users, wherein the first media outlet includes a first transaction delivery system, and wherein the first transaction delivery system includes both a first traffic-and-billing system, and a first content delivery system;

receiving a second broadcast instruction message by at least two redundant ISLs of the plurality of ISLs; and

transmitting the second broadcast instruction message from the at least two redundant ISLs to a second media outlet of the plurality of media outlets, wherein the second media outlet includes a second transaction delivery system, and wherein the second transaction delivery system includes both a second traffic-and-billing system, and a second content delivery system.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

receiving at the plurality of ISLs, playout information transmitted by the plurality of media outlets, the playout information associated with media playout by the plurality of media outlets; and

transmitting the playout information from the plurality of ISLs to the enterprise hub.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

transmitting the playout information from a first ISL to a second ISL.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

transmitting, from at least one of the plurality of media outlets to at least one of the plurality of ISLs, at least one of an industry code associated with media content that has been played as scheduled or a product code associated with media content that has been played as scheduled.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein:

the broadcast instruction messages include preemption information.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

transmitting at least one broadcast instruction message from a first ISL to a second ISL.

14. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

transmitting a cart number between the enterprise hub and at least one of the plurality of ISLs, wherein the cart number identifies media content presented for broadcast.

15. A media distribution system comprising:

an enterprise hub including a processor and memory;

a plurality of media outlets configured to broadcast media to a plurality of end-users, the plurality of media outlets each including a transaction delivery system, wherein the transaction delivery system includes both a traffic-and-billing system, and a content delivery system; and

a plurality of integrated services layers (ISLs) redundantly coupling the enterprise hub to the plurality of media outlets; and

wherein the enterprise hub is configured to:

transmit a first broadcast instruction messages to a first media outlet of the plurality of media outlets via a single ISL; and

transmit a second broadcast instruction message to a second media outlet of the plurality of media outlets, via at least two redundant ISLs.

16. The media distribution system of claim 15 , wherein:

the plurality of ISLs are configured to implement multidirectional gateways.

17. The media distribution system of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of ISLs are configured to:

receive broadcast instruction messages from the enterprise hub; and

transmit the broadcast instruction messages to the plurality of media outlets.

18. The media distribution system of claim 17 , wherein:

the broadcast instruction messages include media outlet identifiers.

19. The media distribution system of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of ISLs are configured to:

receive, from at least one media outlet, information associated with media playout; and

transmit the information associated with media playout to the enterprise hub.

20. The media distribution system of claim 19 , wherein:

at least one of the plurality of ISLs is configured to transmit the information associated with media playout to another of the plurality of ISLs.
