Abstract

A computer-implemented method for processing images to identify Energy Infrastructure (EI) features within aerial images of global terrain is provided. The image processing method identifies information about EI features by applying an EI feature recognition model to aerial images of global terrain. The EI feature recognition model identifies the EI feature information according to image content of the aerial image. The method further provides updates to the identification of the EI feature information according to relationships between identified EI features.

Claims (54)

1. A computer-implemented method to identify Energy Infrastructure (EI), the method to be carried out by at least one processor executing computer instructions, the method comprising:

receiving an image including at least one captured image of a portion of terrain;

obtaining gas emission information according to spectral content of the image;

obtaining EI feature information on at least one EI feature in the portion of terrain;

identifying the at least one EI feature according to the EI feature information; and

associating the gas emission information with the at least one EI feature.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising

receiving from a supplemental information source, regulatory information related to the portion of terrain, wherein

obtaining the EI feature information includes obtaining the EI feature information from the regulatory information.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the regulatory information includes at least one of oilfield permits and energy infrastructure reports.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining the EI feature information includes applying an EI feature recognition model to the image to generate the EI feature information on the at least one EI feature.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein:

the image includes a second at least one captured image of the portion of terrain, and

the EI feature recognition model is applied to the second at least one captured image.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , receiving from a supplemental information source, land data related to the portion of terrain, wherein

obtaining the EI feature information includes obtaining the EI feature information from the land data.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the land data includes at least one of:

pipeline maps,

roadmaps,

surface ownership records,

lease records, and

mineral ownership records.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising

receiving from a supplemental information source, GPS information related to the portion of terrain, wherein

obtaining the EI feature information includes obtaining the EI feature information from the GPS information.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising

identifying at least one of an owner and an operator of the at least one EI feature; and

providing a report of the gas emission information to the at least one of an owner and an operator.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one EI feature includes at least one of:

pipeline infrastructure,

producing wells,

flare systems,

frac spreads,

well pads, and

drilling rigs.

11. A computer-implemented method to identify Energy Infrastructure (EI), the method to be carried out by at least one processor executing computer instructions, the method comprising:

receiving an image including at least one captured image of the portion of terrain;

obtaining gas emission information according to spectral content of the image;

obtaining EI feature information indicative of activity in a portion of terrain;

identifying the EI activity according to the EI feature information; and

associating the gas emission information with the EI activity.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein obtaining EI feature information includes applying an EI feature recognition model to the image to generate the EI feature information indicative of EI activity.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein:

the image includes a second at least one captured image of the portion of terrain, and

the EI feature recognition model is applied to the second at least one captured image.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , further comprising

receiving from a supplemental information source, GPS information related to the portion of terrain, wherein

identifying the EI activity includes identifying the EI activity according to the EI feature information and the GPS information.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , further comprising

receiving from a supplemental information source, GPS information related to the portion of terrain, wherein

obtaining the EI feature information includes obtaining the EI feature information from the GPS information.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , further comprising

identifying at least one of an owner and an operator associated with the EI activity; and

providing a report of the gas emission information to the at least one of an owner and an operator.
