Abstract

A cognitive learning method comprising: receiving data from a plurality of data sources; processing the data from the plurality of data sources to perform a cognitive learning operation, the processing being performed via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive learning operation comprising a plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases, the cognitive learning operation applying a cognitive learning technique to generate a cognitive learning result; and, updating a destination based upon the cognitive learning result.

Claims (57)

1. A cognitive learning method comprising:

receiving data from a plurality of data sources;

processing the data from the plurality of data sources to perform a cognitive learning operation, the processing being performed via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive learning operation comprising a plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases, the cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases interacting with one another by providing and receiving data between adjacent phases, the cognitive learning operation applying a cognitive learning technique to generate a cognitive learning result, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive platform comprising:

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a dataset engine, a graph query engine and an insight/learning engine,

a sourcing agent, the sourcing agent sourcing the data from the plurality of data sources, and,

a destination agent, the destination agent publishing the cognitive learning result to a consumer of cognitive insight data;

updating a knowledge model using the cognitive learning result, the updating being performed via the cognitive platform of the cognitive inference and learning system; and,

updating a destination based upon the cognitive learning result.

2. The cognitive learning method of claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises a source learning operation lifecycle phase, the source learning operation lifecycle phase acquiring data from the plurality of data sources, the source learning operation lifecycle phase ensuring data ownership rights are observed on the data received from the plurality of data sources.

3. The cognitive learning method of claim 2 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises a learn learning operation lifecycle phase, the learn learning operation lifecycle phase receiving information from the source learning operation lifecycle phase and managing cognitive learning operations via a cognitive learning agent.

4. The cognitive learning method of claim 3 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an infer learning operation lifecycle phase, the infer learning operation lifecycle phase receiving information from the learn learning operation lifecycle phase and performing an inference learning operation on the information, the inference learning operation comprising at least one of a concept entailment cognitive learning technique and a contextual recommendation cognitive learning technique.

5. The cognitive learning method of claim 4 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an interpret learning operation lifecycle phase, the interpret learning operation lifecycle phase interpreting results from the learn learning operation lifecycle phase and the infer learning operation lifecycle phase to provide cognitive learning results for consumption by a recipient.

6. The cognitive learning method of claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an act learning operation lifecycle phase, the act learning operation lifecycle phase receiving the cognitive learning results and effecting an action based upon the cognitive learning results.

7. A cognitive information processing system comprising:

a processor;

a data bus coupled to the processor; and

a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium being coupled to the data bus, the computer program code interacting with a plurality of computer operations and comprising instructions executable by the processor and configured for:

receiving data from a plurality of data sources;

processing the data from the plurality of data sources to perform a cognitive learning operation, the processing being performed via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive learning operation comprising a plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases, the cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases interacting with one another by providing and receiving data between adjacent phases, the cognitive learning operation applying a cognitive learning technique to generate a cognitive learning result, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive platform comprising:

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a dataset engine, a graph query engine and an insight/learning engine,

a sourcing agent, the sourcing agent sourcing the data from the plurality of data sources, and,

a destination agent, the destination agent publishing the cognitive learning result to a consumer of cognitive insight data;

updating a knowledge model using the cognitive learning result, the updating being performed via the cognitive platform of the cognitive inference and learning system; and,

updating a destination based upon the cognitive learning result.

8. The cognitive information processing system of claim 7 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises a source learning operation lifecycle phase, the source learning operation lifecycle phase acquiring data from the plurality of data sources, the source learning operation lifecycle phase ensuring data ownership rights are observed on the data received from the plurality of data sources.

9. The cognitive information processing system of claim 8 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises a learn learning operation lifecycle phase, the learn learning operation lifecycle phase receiving information from the source learning operation lifecycle phase and managing cognitive learning operations via a cognitive learning agent.

10. The cognitive information processing system of claim 9 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an infer learning operation lifecycle phase, the infer learning operation lifecycle phase receiving information from the learn learning operation lifecycle phase and performing an inference learning operation on the information, the inference learning operation comprising at least one of a concept entailment cognitive learning technique and a contextual recommendation cognitive learning technique.

11. The cognitive information processing system of claim 10 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an interpret learning operation lifecycle phase, the interpret learning operation lifecycle phase interpreting results from the learn learning operation lifecycle phase and the infer learning operation lifecycle phase to provide cognitive learning results for consumption by a recipient.

12. The cognitive information processing system of claim 7 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an act learning operation lifecycle phase, the act learning operation lifecycle phase receiving the cognitive learning results and effecting an action based upon the cognitive learning results.

13. A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the computer program code comprising computer executable instructions configured for:

receiving data from a plurality of data sources;

processing the data from the plurality of data sources to perform a cognitive learning operation, the processing being performed via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive learning operation comprising a plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases, the cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases interacting with one another by providing and receiving data between adjacent phases, the cognitive learning operation applying a cognitive learning technique to generate a cognitive learning result, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive platform comprising:

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a dataset engine, a graph query engine and an insight/learning engine,

a sourcing agent, the sourcing agent sourcing the data from the plurality of data sources, and,

a destination agent, the destination agent publishing the cognitive learning result to a consumer of cognitive insight data;

updating a knowledge model using the cognitive learning result, the updating being performed via the cognitive platform of the cognitive inference and learning system; and,

updating a destination based upon the cognitive learning result.

14. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises a source learning operation lifecycle phase, the source learning operation lifecycle phase acquiring data from the plurality of data sources, the source learning operation lifecycle phase ensuring data ownership rights are observed on the data received from the plurality of data sources.

15. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises a learn learning operation lifecycle phase, the learn learning operation lifecycle phase receiving information from the source learning operation lifecycle phase and managing cognitive learning operations via a cognitive learning agent.

16. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an infer learning operation lifecycle phase, the infer learning operation lifecycle phase receiving information from the learn learning operation lifecycle phase and performing an inference learning operation on the information, the inference learning operation comprising at least one of a concept entailment cognitive learning technique and a contextual recommendation cognitive learning technique.

17. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an interpret learning operation lifecycle phase, the interpret learning operation lifecycle phase interpreting results from the learn learning operation lifecycle phase and the infer learning operation lifecycle phase to provide cognitive learning results for consumption by a recipient.

18. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein:

the plurality of cognitive learning operation lifecycle phases comprises an act learning operation lifecycle phase, the act learning operation lifecycle phase receiving the cognitive learning results and effecting an action based upon the cognitive learning results.
