ENERGY SAVING USB RECEPTACLE
Provided herein is technology relating to providing power over a universal serial bus (USB) connection and particularly, but not exclusively, to devices, methods, and systems related to a (USB) technology for reducing energy consumption by a USB receptacle.

20 . A universal serial bus (USB) charging system comprising:
a) a USB receptacle comprising USB terminals and a first shell side that is physically and electrically separated from a second shell side, wherein one of the shell sides is connected to a ground and the other shell side is electrically connected to an on/off logic circuit; and
b) a charging circuit comprising a power source having an enable/disable pin; wherein the on/off logic circuit is electrically connected to the charging circuit, and wherein the charging circuit provides approximately 0 volts (V) to the USB terminals when the USB receptacle is unmated with a USB plug.
21 . The USB charging system of claim 20 , wherein the on/off logic circuit comprises a pull-up resistor, an inverter, or a transistor.
22 . The USB charging system of claim 20 , wherein the power source supplies direct current.
23 . The USB charging system of claim 20 , wherein the power source supplies alternating current.
24 . The USB charging system of claim 20 , wherein the power source is a battery.
25 . The USB charging system of claim 20 , wherein the charging circuit provides approximately 5 V or more to the USB terminals when a USB plug is mated to the USB receptacle.
26 . The USB charging system of claim 20 , wherein the charging circuit provides approximately 20 V or more to the USB terminals when a USB plug is mated to the USB receptacle.
27 . The USB charging system of claim 20 , wherein the charging circuit provides between approximately 4.4 V and 5.25 V direct current to the USB terminals when a USB plug is mated to the USB receptacle.
