Abstract

A packaging for an implant to hold the implant in a first condition. The packaging including a first packaging tube and a container, wherein the implant is movable from the container into the first tube and maintained within the first tube in a second condition, the implant having a first transverse dimension in the first condition and a second transverse dimension in the second condition, the second transverse dimension being less than the first transverse dimension.

Claims (31)

1. A method for removing a vascular implant from a packaging, the packaging having a container to receive the implant, a first packaging tube and a second packaging tube, the method comprising the steps of:

a) pulling an elongated delivery member in a first direction to pull the vascular implant from the container into a delivery sheath positioned within the first packaging tube;

b) subsequently pulling the delivery sheath in the first direction until a first end of the delivery sheath is free of the first packaging tube; and

c) subsequently freeing an end of the delivery member from the second packaging tube, wherein the delivery member extends into the container to connect to the implant.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of pulling the delivery member to pull the implant into the delivery sheath moves the implant to a more constrained condition having a smaller transverse dimension and prior to pulling the implant into the delivery sheath the implant has a transverse dimension larger than a transverse dimension of the delivery sheath.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of pulling the delivery sheath in the first direction includes also pulling the delivery member in the first direction.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein one or both of the first and second packaging tubes are contained in a coiled configuration during shipping.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising a series of clips retaining both the first and second packaging tubes in the coiled configuration.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the delivery member and delivery sheath are exposed in a gap between the first and second packaging tubes.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the gap has length less than a length of the first packaging tube and second packaging tube.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the delivery member is exposed proximally of the delivery sheath in the gap.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the delivery sheath terminates at one end in the gap between the first and second packaging tubes.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the container has an internal space larger than a transverse dimension of the implant.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first and second packaging tubes have an arcuate configuration.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the delivery wire extends into the first and second packaging tubes and the delivery sheath terminates distally of the second packaging tube.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising further pulling the elongated delivery member in the first direction to free the delivery member from the first packaging tube.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein step (b) is performed after the implant is pulled fully into a lumen of the delivery sheath.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the delivery wire extends into the first and second packaging tubes and the delivery sheath terminates distally of the second packaging tube.

16. A method for removing a vascular implant from a packaging, the packaging having a container to receive the implant, a first packaging tube and a second packaging tube, the method comprising the steps of:

a) pulling an elongated delivery member in a first direction to pull the vascular implant from the container into a delivery sheath positioned within the first packaging tube;

b) subsequently pulling the delivery sheath in the first direction until a first end of the delivery sheath is free of the first packaging tube; and

c) subsequently freeing an end of the delivery member from a second packaging tube,

wherein the step of freeing the delivery member comprises pulling the delivery member in a second direction opposite the first direction until the end of the delivery member is free of the second packaging tube.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the delivery sheath extends into the container prior to step (b).

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the delivery member is exposed proximally of the delivery sheath in a gap between the first and second packaging tubes.

19. A method for removing a vascular implant from a packaging, the packaging having a container to receive the implant, a first packaging tube and a second packaging tube, the method comprising the steps of:

a) pulling an elongated delivery member in a first direction to pull the vascular implant from the container into a delivery sheath positioned within the first packaging tube;

b) subsequently pulling the delivery sheath in the first direction until a first end of the delivery sheath is free of the first packaging tube; and

c) subsequently freeing an end of the delivery member from a second packaging tube,

wherein the implant is positioned in the container in a three-dimensional helical configuration.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the delivery member extends into the container to connect to the implant.
