Abstract

A wall panel of a moveable and demountable frameless wall panel system that is secured between a floor of a room and a ceiling rail secured to a ceiling of the room. The wall panel includes a frameless panel, an upper clamp assembly, a ceiling track configured to be removably inserted into the ceiling rail, a lower clamp assembly, a first height adjustment mechanism secured to the lower clamp assembly, a second height adjustment mechanism, and a bottom floor channel receiving the first height and second height adjustment mechanisms.

Claims (51)

1 . A demountable wall panel system, the system comprising:

a ceiling rail configured to be mounted to a ceiling;

a bottom floor channel configured to be mounted to a floor;

a panel having a top, a bottom, a left side, a right side, a front, and a back, the panel defining a top portion toward the top and a bottom portion toward the bottom of the panel, the panel being substantially frameless on at least the left and right sides of the panel and the top of the panel being removably insertable into the ceiling rail; and

one or more height adjustment assemblies associated with the panel and insertable into the bottom floor channel, each height adjustment assembly including a support to support the bottom portion of the panel, a pivot mechanism coupled to the support and defining a pivot axis parallel to an axis extending through the front and back of the panel, and a height adjustment mechanism coupled to the pivot mechanism opposite the pivot mechanism from the support, wherein the height adjustment mechanism includes a base configured to engage the bottom floor channel, and wherein the height adjustment mechanism is selectively operable to adjustably raise or lower the pivot mechanism and the support with respect to the bottom floor channel, thereby allowing a vertical height adjustment of the panel, and a rotational angle adjustment of the panel about the pivot axis as the panel is raised for insertion into the ceiling rail, and wherein the support comprises a lower clamp assembly configured to support the bottom portion of the panel, and wherein the lower clamp assembly includes first and second clamps configured to clamp to the bottom portion of the panel.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the pivot axis is arranged below the lower clamp assembly.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the panel is a frameless glass panel defining a frameless butt-glazed assembly.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the left and right sides of the panel are substantially free of vertical posts.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more height adjustment assemblies include a support edge for operatively supporting the bottom portion of the panel.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the pivot axis is perpendicular to one or both of the front or back of the panel.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the pivot axis is located opposite the bottom of the panel from the top of the panel.

8 . The demountable wall panel system of claim 1 , wherein the height adjustment mechanism includes a first adjustment leg and a second adjustment leg coupled about a pivot axis.

9 . A demountable wall panel system, the system comprising:

a ceiling rail configured to be mounted to a ceiling;

a bottom floor channel configured to be mounted to a floor;

a first panel having a top, a bottom, a left side, a right side, a front, and a back, the panel defining a top portion toward the top and a bottom portion toward the bottom of the panel, the first panel being substantially frameless on at least the left and right sides of the panel and removably insertable into the ceiling rail;

a second panel having a top, a bottom, a left side, a right side, a front, and a back, the panel defining a top portion toward the top and a bottom portion toward the bottom of the panel, the second panel being substantially frameless on at least the left and right sides of the panel and removably insertable into the ceiling rail;

a member arranged between adjacent frameless edges of the first panel and second panel;

a first height adjustment assembly associated with the first panel, the first height adjustment assembly including a support to support the bottom portion of the first panel, a pivot mechanism coupled to the support and defining a pivot axis parallel to an axis extending through the front and back of the first panel, and a first height adjustment mechanism coupled to the pivot mechanism opposite the pivot mechanism from the support, wherein the first height adjustment mechanism includes a base configured to engage the bottom floor channel, and wherein the first height adjustment mechanism is selectively operable to adjustably raise or lower the pivot mechanism and the support with respect to the bottom floor channel, thereby allowing a vertical height adjustment of the first panel, and a rotational angle adjustment of the first panel about the pivot axis as the first panel is raised for insertion into the ceiling rail, and wherein the support comprises a lower clamp assembly configured to support the bottom portion of the panel, and wherein the lower clamp assembly includes first and second clamps configured to clamp to the bottom portion of the panel; and

a second height adjustment assembly associated with the second panel, the second height adjustment assembly including a support to support the bottom portion of the second panel, a pivot mechanism coupled to the support and defining a pivot axis parallel to an axis extending through the front and back of the second panel, and a second height adjustment mechanism coupled to the pivot mechanism opposite the pivot mechanism from the support, wherein the second height adjustment mechanism includes a base configured to engage the bottom floor channel, and wherein the second height adjustment mechanism is selectively operable as to adjustably raise or lower the pivot mechanism and the support with respect to the bottom floor channel, thereby allowing a vertical height adjustment of the second panel, and a rotational angle adjustment of the second panel about the pivot axis as the second panel is raised for insertion into the ceiling rail, and wherein the support comprises a lower clamp assembly configured to support the bottom portion of the panel, and wherein the lower clamp assembly includes first and second clamps configured to clamp to the bottom portion of the panel.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the member arranged between adjacent frameless edges of the first panel and second panel is a support member.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the support member comprising a gasket.

12 . The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the pivot axis of the first height adjustment assembly is perpendicular to one or both of the front or back of the first panel; and

the pivot axis of the second height adjustment assembly is perpendicular to one or both of the front or back of the second panel.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein:

the pivot axis of the first height adjustment assembly is located opposite the bottom of the first panel from the top of the first panel; and

the pivot axis of the second height adjustment assembly is located opposite the bottom of the second panel from the top of the second panel.

14 . The demountable wall panel system of claim 9 , wherein:

the first height adjustment mechanism includes a first adjustment leg and a second adjustment leg coupled about a pivot axis; and

the second height adjustment mechanism includes a first adjustment leg and a second adjustment leg coupled about a pivot axis.

A method of adjusting a height of a pre-assembled panel of a demountable wall system, the pre-assembled panel including a panel having a top, a bottom, a left side, a right side, a front, and a back, the panel defining a top portion toward the top and a bottom portion toward the bottom of the panel, the panel being substantially frameless on at least the left and right sides of the panel and the top of the panel being removably insertable into a ceiling rail, the pre-assembled panel including one or more height adjustment assemblies associated with the panel and insertable into a bottom floor channel, wherein at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies includes a support to support the bottom portion of the panel, a pivot mechanism coupled to the support and defining a pivot axis parallel to an axis extending through the front and back of the panel, and a height adjustment mechanism coupled to the pivot mechanism opposite the pivot mechanism from the support, wherein the height adjustment mechanism includes a base configured to engage the bottom floor channel, the method comprising:

inserting the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies into the bottom floor channel, including engaging the base of the height adjustment mechanism of the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies with the bottom floor channel;

coupling the bottom portion of the panel to the support of the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies via a lower clamp assembly comprising first and second clamps;

adjusting a height of the panel by selectively operating the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies, including raising the panel to insert the panel into the ceiling rail; and

adjusting an angle of the panel about the pivot axis by selectively operating the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein each support further comprises a lower clamp assembly configured to support the bottom portion of the panel, and the method includes clamping the bottom portion of the panel to the support by the lower clamp assembly.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the pivot axis is arranged below the lower clamp assembly.

18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the pivot axis is located opposite the bottom of the panel from the top of the panel.

19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein:

the height adjustment mechanism of the at least one of the one or more of the height adjustment assemblies comprises a first adjustment leg and a second adjustment leg coupled about a pivot axis and a height adjusting rod;

adjusting the height of the panel includes rotating the height adjusting rod; and

adjusting the angle of the panel includes rotating the height adjusting rod.

20 . A demountable wall panel system, the system comprising:

a panel having a top, a bottom, a left side, a right side, a front, and a back, the panel defining a top portion toward the top and a bottom portion toward the bottom of the panel, the panel being substantially frameless on at least the left and right sides of the panel and the top of the panel being removably insertable into a ceiling rail; and

one or more height adjustment assemblies associated with the panel and insertable into a bottom floor channel, each height adjustment assembly including a support to support the bottom portion of the panel, a pivot mechanism coupled to the support and defining a pivot axis parallel to an axis extending through the front and back of the panel, and a height adjustment mechanism including a base configured to engage the bottom floor channel, a height adjustment rod rotatably coupled to the base, a first adjustment leg and a second adjustment leg coupled to the pivot mechanism and to the height adjustment rod, the height adjustment mechanism being selectively operable by rotation of the height adjustment rod to adjustably raise or lower the support, thereby allowing a vertical height adjustment of the panel, and a rotational angle adjustment of the panel about the pivot axis as the panel is raised and inserted into the ceiling rail, and wherein the support comprises a lower clamp assembly including first and second clamps configured to clamp to the bottom portion of the panel.

A method of adjusting a height of a pre-assembled panel of a demountable wall system, the pre-assembled panel including a panel having a top, a bottom, a left side, a right side, a front, and a back, the panel defining a top portion toward the top and a bottom portion toward the bottom of the panel, the panel being substantially frameless on at least the left and right sides of the panel and the top of the panel being removably insertable into a ceiling rail, the pre-assembled panel including one or more height adjustment assemblies associated with the panel and insertable into a bottom floor channel, wherein at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies includes a support to support the bottom portion of the panel, a pivot mechanism coupled to the support and defining a pivot axis parallel to an axis extending through the front and back of the panel, and a height adjustment mechanism including a base configured to engage the bottom floor channel, a height adjustment rod rotatably coupled to the base, a first adjustment leg coupling the height adjustment rod to the pivot mechanism, and a second adjustment leg coupling the height adjustment rod to the pivot mechanism, the method comprising:

inserting the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies into the bottom floor channel, including engaging the base of the height adjustment mechanism of the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies with the bottom floor channel;

coupling the bottom portion of the panel to the support of the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies via a lower clamp assembly comprising first and second clamps;

adjusting a height of the panel by selectively rotating the height adjusting rod of the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies, including raising the panel to insert the panel into the ceiling rail; and

adjusting an angle of the panel about the pivot axis by selectively rotating the height adjusting rod of the at least one of the one or more height adjustment assemblies.
