Abstract

A surgical hub is configured to transmit generator data associated with a surgical procedure from a generator of the surgical hub to a cloud-based system. The surgical hub comprises a processor and a memory storing instructions executable by the processor to: receive generator data; encrypt the generator data; generate a message authentication code based on the generator data; generate a datagram comprising: the encrypted generator data, the generated message authentication code, a source identifier and a destination identifier; and transmit the datagram to the cloud-based system. The datagram allows for the cloud-based system to: decrypt the encrypted generator data; verify the integrity of the generator data based on the message authentication code; authenticate the surgical hub as the source of the datagram; and validate a transmission path followed by the datagram between the surgical hub and the cloud based system.

receive a medical response by the operator of the second surgical hub to the medical consultation request, wherein the medical response includes a manipulated image displayed on the primary or secondary output display.

23 . The surgical hub of claim 22 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to: provide the operator of the second surgical hub, navigational control of the live video stream of intraoperative surgical procedure.

24 . The surgical hub of claim 22 , wherein the medical consultation request comprises a medical question, proposal, or request or a second opinion associated with the intraoperative surgical procedure.

25 . The surgical hub of claim 22 , wherein the temporary communication link is a short range wireless communication protocol.

26 . The surgical hub of claim 22 , wherein an operator in the first operating room maintains a sterile surgical environment in the first operating room throughout the medical consultation request.

27 . A surgical hub for use with a surgical system in an intraoperative surgical procedure performed in a first operating room, wherein the surgical hub comprises:

a control circuit communicably coupled to a primary display, a secondary display, and a user interface;

the primary output display is configured to display the live video stream of the surgical procedure;

the secondary output display is configured to display patient information and medical information associated with the intraoperative surgical procedure;

the control circuit configured to:

receive a request to initiate a temporary communication link with a second surgical hub, wherein the second surgical hub is in a second operating room, and wherein the request to initiate the temporary communication link is part of a medical consultation request;

receive medical information associated with the intraoperative surgical procedure over the temporary communication link to the second surgical hub;

record the temporary communication link;

store the temporary communication link and the medical information in a temporary storage array on the surgical hub;

receive a live video stream of the intraoperative surgical procedure over the temporary communication link;

provide a medical response by an operator of the surgical hub to the medical consultation request, wherein the medical response includes a manipulated image displayed on the primary or secondary output display; and

purge the temporary storage array of all information associated with the temporary communication link upon the termination of the temporary communication link.

28 . The surgical hub of claim 27 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to: control the navigational controls of the live video stream of intraoperative surgical at the second surgical hub.

29 . The surgical hub of claim 27 , wherein the medical consultation request comprises a medical question, proposal, or request or a second opinion associated with the intraoperative surgical procedure.

30 . The surgical hub of claim 27 , wherein the temporary communication link is a short range wireless communication protocol.

31 . The surgical hub of claim 27 , wherein an operator in the first operating room maintains a sterile surgical environment in the first operating room throughout the medical consultation request.

32 . The surgical hub of claim 27 , wherein an operator in the first operating room forwards the medical consultation request to an operator in a third operating room.

33 . A method for an intraoperative surgical consultation in sterile surgical environment comprising a first surgical hub in a first operating room, the first surgical hub comprising control circuit communicably coupled to a primary display, a secondary display, and a user interface, the method comprising:

transmitting, by the control circuit, a request to initiate a temporary communication link with a second surgical hub, wherein the second surgical hub is in a second operating room, and wherein the request to initiate the temporary communication link is part of a medical consultation request;

establishing, by the control circuit, the temporary communication link in response to an accepted request by the second surgical hub;

transmitting, by the control circuit, medical information associated with the intraoperative surgical procedure over the temporary communication link to the second surgical hub;

transmitting, by the control circuit, a live video stream of the intraoperative surgical procedure over the temporary communication link to the second surgical hub;

providing, by the control circuit, temporary access to an operator of the second surgical hub to control the surgical hub; and

receiving, by the control circuit, a medical response by the operator of the second surgical hub to the medical consultation request, wherein the medical response includes a manipulated image displayed on the primary or secondary output display.

34 . The method for an intraoperative surgical consultation of claim 33 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to: provide the operator of the second surgical hub, navigational control of the live video stream of intraoperative surgical procedure.

35 . The method for an intraoperative surgical consultation of claim 33 , wherein the medical consultation request comprises a medical question, proposal, or request or a second opinion associated with the intraoperative surgical procedure.

36 . The method for an intraoperative surgical consultation of claim 33 , wherein the temporary communication link is a short range wireless communication protocol.
