Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products for managing one or more group-based communications and/or one or more group-based communication channels to cause rendering of a group-based communication interface. In some embodiments, a group-based communication system causes rendering of a group-based communication interface including a focus interface component, which may be used to receive a user focus selection input. The group-based communication system generates a focus value and identifies a focus threshold. The group-based communication causes rendering of the group-based communication interface based on whether the focus value satisfies the identified focus threshold. Embodiments further provide methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products for managing one or more user communications to cause rendering of a user communication interface. Some embodiments herein are configured to interfaces including a focus interface component enabling dynamic adjustment of focus thresholds/focus modes associated with a group-based communication interface.

Claims (51)

1. A method for displaying user communications in a group-based communication interface of a group-based communication platform, comprising:

receiving a user focus selection input from a first user;

activating a focus mode for the group-based communication interface based on the user focus selection input;

identifying a focus threshold value based on the user focus selection input;

receiving a first user communication from a second user;

determining whether to display the first user communication in the group-based communication interface based on the activated focus mode, the focus threshold value based on the user focus selection input, and a focus value associated with a group-based communication channel to which the first user communication is posted, wherein the group-based communication channel is a virtual communications environment configured to display communications posted by channel members and the focus value associated with the group-based communication channel is a numerical value representing an importance level for the communications posted to the group-based communication channel; and

in accordance with a determination to display the first user communication based on the determining, displaying the first user communication in the group-based communication interface; or

in accordance with a determination not to display the first user communication based on the determining, foregoing displaying the first user communication in the group-based communication interface.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying the first user communication and information associated with the first user in the group-based communication interface.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a focus mode interface effect associated with the first user communication and the activated focus mode; and

in accordance with the determination to display the first user communication, displaying the first user communication based at least in part on the focus mode interface effect.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a second user communication from a third user; and

based on the user focus selection input, simultaneously foregoing displaying the first user communication and the second user communication in the group-based communication interface.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an updated user focus selection input from the first user;

identifying an updated focus threshold value based on the updated user focus selection input; and

in response to the updated focus threshold value, updating a display of the group-based communication interface.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the group-based communication interface is simultaneously displayed on a first device corresponding to the first user and a second device corresponding to the second user before the user focus selection input is received.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the determining whether to display the first user communication comprises determining whether to display the first user communication with respect to the first device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the focus threshold value comprises:

determining a position of a slider in a slider interface component based on the user focus selection input modifying the position of the slider, wherein the position of the slider indicates slider component value; and

generating the focus threshold value based on the slider component value.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein:

the user focus selection input moves the slider past an activation point;

the focus mode is activated based on the slider moving past the activation Point; and

the focus threshold value is generated based on the slider moving past the activation point.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying the first user communication in the group-based communication interface comprises:

rendering the first user communication according to a format based on a type of the first user communication indicating that the first user communication is unimportant according to the focus threshold value.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining whether to display the first user communication in the group-based communication interface comprises:

comparing the focus value for the first user communication to the focus threshold value.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the first user communication is displayed in the group-based communication interface for the first user based on the focus value for the first user communication satisfying the focus threshold value.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the foregoing displaying the first user communication in the group-based communication interface for the first user is based on the focus value for the first user communication failing to satisfy the focus threshold value.

14. A system for displaying user communications in a group-based communication interface of a group-based communication platform, the system comprising at least one processor and at least one memory configured to:

receive a user focus selection input from a first user;

activate a focus mode for the group-based communication interface based on the user focus selection input;

identify a focus threshold value based on the user focus selection input;

receive a first user communication from a second user;

determine whether to display the first user communication in the group-based communication interface based on the activated focus mode, the focus threshold value based on the user focus selection input, and a focus value associated with a group-based communication channel to which the first user communication is posted, wherein the group-based communication channel is a virtual communications environment configured to display communications posted by channel members and the focus value associated with the group-based communication channel is a numerical value representing an importance level for the communications posted to the group-based communication channel; and

in accordance with a determination to display the first user communication based on the determining, display the first user communication in the group-based communication interface; or

in accordance with a determination not to display the first user communication based on the determining, forego displaying the first user communication in the group-based communication interface.

15. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium for displaying user communications in a group-based communication interface of a group-based communication platform, the non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs comprising instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

receive a user focus selection input from a first user;

activate a focus mode for the group-based communication interface based on the user focus selection input;

identify a focus threshold value based on the user focus selection input;

receive a first user communication from a second user;

determine whether to display the first user communication in the group-based communication interface based on the activated focus mode, the focus threshold value based on the user focus selection input, and a focus value associated with a group-based communication channel to which the first user communication is posted, wherein the group-based communication channel is a virtual communications environment configured to display communications posted by channel members and the focus value associated with the group-based communication channel is a numerical value representing an importance level for the communications posted to the group-based communication channel; and

in accordance with a determination to display the first user communication based on the determining, display the first user communication in the group-based communication interface; or

in accordance with a determination not to display the first user communication based on the determining, forego displaying the first user communication in the group-based communication interface.
