Abstract

A method includes receiving, at an application provider, a request from a requestor to provide a customized application. The application provider obtains a first configuration parameter including channel configuration information specifying a default channel. The application provider also obtains an unconfigured application from a codebase, and modifies the unconfigured application based, at least in part, on the first configuration parameter, to generate the customized application. As modified, the customized application is configured to include the default channel specified by the channel configuration information. The customized application is then transmitting to a destination specified by the requestor.

Claims (67)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at an application provider, a request from a requestor device to provide a customized application associated with a particular market brand to a user device, wherein the customized application includes media streaming functionality, and wherein the user device is a different device than the requestor device;

obtaining, at the application provider, at least one configuration parameter associated with the particular market brand, the at least one configuration parameter including channel configuration information specifying a default channel configuration associated with the particular market brand;

obtaining, from a codebase, an unconfigured application;

modifying the unconfigured application in accordance with the at least one configuration parameter to generate the customized application including the default channel configuration associated with the particular market brand; and

transmitting the customized application from the application provider to the user device.

2. The method of claim 1 , further including:

obtaining, at the application provider, a second configuration parameter specifying a default information source; and

modifying the unconfigured application based, at least in part, on the second configuration parameter, to generate the customized application, the customized application configured to use the default information source specified by the second configuration parameter.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

obtaining, at the application provider, third configuration parameter specifying graphical user interface (GUI) characteristics; and

modifying the unconfigured application based, at least in part, on the third configuration parameter, to generate the customized application, the customized application configured to use the GUI characteristics specified by the third configuration parameter.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the requesting device is included in an application store; and

obtaining the at least one configuration parameter includes obtaining the at least one configuration parameter from the application store.

5. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

identifying a particular unconfigured application based on the third configuration parameter; and

wherein obtaining the unconfigured application includes obtaining the particular unconfigured application from the codebase.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the at least one configuration parameter is part of a set of configuration parameters associated with a geographic area.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

obtaining the at least one configuration parameter includes receiving a first configuration parameter in the request to provide the custom application.

8. A processing device comprising:

a processor;

memory coupled to the processor;

a program of instructions storied in the memory and executable by the processor, the program of instructions including:

at least one instruction to receive a request from a requestor device to provide a customized application associated with a particular market brand to a user device, wherein the customized application includes media streaming functionality, and wherein the user device is a different device than the requestor device;

at least one instruction to obtain at least one configuration parameter associated with the particular market brand, the at least one configuration parameter including channel configuration information specifying a default channel configuration associated with the particular market brand;

at least one instruction to obtain, from a codebase, an unconfigured application;

at least one instruction to modify the unconfigured application in accordance with the at least one configuration parameter to generate the customized application including the default channel configuration associated with the particular market brand; and

at least one instruction to transmit the customized application to the user device.

9. The processing device of claim 8 , wherein the program of instructions further includes:

at least one instruction to obtain a second configuration parameter specifying a default information source; and

at least one instruction to modify the unconfigured application based, at least in part, on the second configuration parameter, to generate the customized application, the customized application configured to use the default information source specified by the second configuration parameter.

10. The processing device of claim 8 , wherein the program of instructions further includes:

at least one instruction to obtain a third configuration parameter specifying graphical user interface (GUI) characteristics; and

at least one instruction to modify the unconfigured application based, at least in part, on the third configuration parameter, to generate the customized application, the customized application configured to use the GUI characteristics specified by the third configuration parameter.

11. The processing device of claim 8 , wherein:

the requesting device is included in is an application store; and

the at least one instruction to obtain the at least one configuration parameter includes at least one instruction to obtain the at least one configuration parameter from the application store.

12. The processing device of claim 10 , wherein the program of instructions further includes:

at least one instruction to identify a particular unconfigured application based on the third configuration parameter; and

wherein the at least one instruction to obtain the unconfigured application includes at least one instruction to obtain the particular unconfigured application from the codebase.

13. The processing device of claim 8 , wherein:

the at least one configuration parameter is part of a set of configuration parameters associated with a geographic area.

14. The processing device of claim 8 , wherein:

the at least one instruction to obtain the at least one configuration parameter includes at least one instruction to receive a first configuration parameter in the request to provide the custom application.

15. A non-transitory computer readable medium tangibly embodying a program of instructions configured to be stored in a memory and executed by a processor, the program of instructions including

at least one instruction to receive, at an application provider, a request from a requestor device to provide a customized application associated with a particular market brand to a user device, wherein the customized application includes media streaming functionality, and wherein the user device is a different device than the requestor device;

at least one instruction to obtain, at the application provider, at least one configuration parameter associated with the particular market brand, the at least one configuration parameter including channel configuration information specifying a default channel configuration associated with the particular market brand;

at least one instruction to obtain, from a codebase, an unconfigured application;

at least one instruction to modify the unconfigured application in accordance with the at least one configuration parameter to generate the customized application including the default channel configuration associated with the particular market brand; and

at least one instruction to transmit the customized application from the application provider to the user device.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the program of instructions further includes:

at least one instruction to obtain, at the application provider, a second configuration parameter specifying a default information source; and

at least one instruction to modify the unconfigured application based, at least in part, on the second configuration parameter, to generate the customized application, the customized application configured to use the default information source specified by the second configuration parameter.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the program of instructions further includes:

at least one instruction to obtain, at the application provider, third configuration parameter specifying graphical user interface (GUI) characteristics; and
