Abstract

A method for rendering context based information on a user interface includes receiving a user request to extract the context based information from a database. The database includes a plurality of documents and the request includes at least one search criteria required to determine a context of the user request. The method includes generating a list of documents corresponding to the context of the user request and rendering on a viewing portion of the user interface the list of documents corresponding to the context of the user request.

Claims (45)

1. A system for rendering information from a database on a user interface of a remote computer, the system comprising one or more processors operable to:

process a plurality of financial documents using a textual matching analysis to identify snippets of text within the financial documents,

wherein the textual matching analysis determines a category for a first identified snippet from a plurality of predetermined financial concept categories based on the text in the first identified snippet and a first keyword associated with the category,

wherein the textual matching analysis determines a category for a second identified snippet based on the text in the second identified snippet and a second keyword associated with the category for the first identified snippet, wherein the first keyword and the second keyword are different, and wherein the category for the first identified snippet is the same as the category for the second identified snippet;

receive a query from a user at the remote computer to search for information within the database, wherein the database comprises information from the plurality of financial documents that have been processed, and wherein the user query includes:

information identifying a publicly traded company;

execute a search based on the user query; and

generate a graphical display of information associated with the publicly traded company based on the search,

wherein the graphical display includes a heatmap that uses colors to represent data indicative of sentiment generated based on the textual matching analysis in a two-dimensional matrix,

wherein portions of the heatmap are selectable by the user to display at least some of the identified snippets of text upon which the data indicative of sentiment for a selected portion is based,

wherein portions of the heatmap are organized according to the predetermined financial concept categories,

wherein the plurality of financial documents is associated with a plurality of publicly traded companies in a same industry, and

wherein the heatmap displays on a same user interface the data indicative of sentiment of the plurality of publicly traded companies in the same industry for viewing by a user.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the textual matching analysis comprises a key word search.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the textual matching analysis includes assigning a negative sentiment or a positive sentiment to an identified snippet of text.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to assign both a negative sentiment and a positive sentiment to the identified snippet of text.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the heatmap comprises a plurality of rectangles.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to generate a report in a graphical display when a rectangle of the plurality of rectangles is clicked by a user.

7. The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to generate a graphical display comprising a plurality of financial documents when a rectangle of the plurality of rectangles is clicked by a user.

8. The system of claim 3 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to determine a sentiment score for the determined sentiment and generate a graphical display of the sentiment score on the heatmap.

9. The system of claim 3 , wherein the heatmap comprises a plurality of rectangles, wherein the one or more processors are further operable to generate a graphical display comprising a plurality of identified snippets of text and associated sentiments when a rectangle of the plurality of rectangles is clicked by a user.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to filter a subset of the plurality of identified snippets of text in response to a prompt by the user.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to filter a subset of the plurality of the identified snippets of text associated with a topic selected by the user based one of a: present tense, past tense, and future tense, associated with the identified snippets of text.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to generate a graphical representation of a plurality of sentiments associated with a plurality of the identified snippets of text.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the graphical display lists a plurality of sentiment categories.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further operable to determine a sentiment score for the determined sentiment.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the heatmap aggregates a plurality of sentiments for each of a plurality of financial documents.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of financial documents is associated with a same publicly traded company.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of financial documents is associated with a same document type.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the aggregate of the plurality of sentiments is generated over a time period.

19. A system for rendering information from a database on a user interface of a remote computer, the system comprising one or more processors operable to:

process a plurality of financial documents using a textual matching analysis to identify snippets of text within the financial documents,

wherein the textual matching analysis determines a category for a first identified snippet from a plurality of predetermined financial concept categories based on the text in the first identified snippet and a first keyword associated with the category,

wherein the textual matching analysis determines a category for a second identified snippet based on the text in the second identified snippet and a second keyword associated with the category for the first identified snippet, wherein the first keyword and the second keyword are different, and wherein the category for the first identified snippet is the same as the category for the second identified snippet;

receive a query from a user at the remote computer to search for information within the database, wherein the database comprises information from the plurality of financial documents that have been processed, and wherein the user query includes:

information identifying a publicly traded company;

execute a search based on the user query; and

generate a graphical display of information associated with the publicly traded company based on the search,

wherein the graphical display includes a heatmap that uses colors to represent data indicative of sentiment generated based on the textual matching analysis in a two-dimensional matrix,

wherein portions of the heatmap are selectable by the user to display at least some of the identified snippets of text upon which the data indicative of sentiment for a selected portion is based,

wherein portions of the heatmap are organized according to the predetermined financial concept categories,

wherein the plurality of financial documents is associated with a plurality of publicly traded companies in a same industry,

wherein the heatmap displays on a same user interface the data indicative of sentiment of the plurality of publicly traded companies in the same industry for viewing by a user,

wherein the heatmap is selectable by the user to display the data indicative of sentiment according to a time period that is selectable by the user, and

wherein the heatmap is selectable by the user to display the data indicative of sentiment according to the financial concept categories that is selectable by the user.
