Abstract

A location-based and preference-based system and method for matching media content about persons, places and things with the expressed preferences of mobile users to notify users about and provide users with access to media content about persons, places and things that match the user's expressed preferences. The system thus provides information such as stories or articles that match the user's interests and relate to their location. The system may assign ranks to all of the media content that meets that user's preferences wherein, in one embodiment, it will automatically play them in the assigned order. Comparison of the user's preferences with the various profiles of the media content allows the user only to be informed of the media content for those persons, places or things that the user is likely to be interested in. The system and method thus provides for a mobile real-time point of interest exchange network.

sending to the wireless mobile device an indication of the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest that match the search criteria, wherein the indication includes at least one review or rating of the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving from the wireless mobile device information or insight regarding the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising enabling the user to request further information about the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the geolocation criterion varies with a geographic location of the wireless mobile device, the method further comprising:

receiving from the wireless mobile device an updated geographic location of the wireless mobile device; and

updating the geolocation criterion based on the updated geographic location of the wireless mobile device.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting to the wireless mobile device information about multiple goods, services and/or places of interest whose profiles match the search criteria, including the geolocation criterion.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving updated search criteria from the wireless mobile device of the user.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising enabling the user to contact an entity associated with the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

8. An apparatus comprising:

a database configured to store information about goods, services and/or places of interest; and

a server coupled to the database, wherein the server is configured to:

receive search criteria, including a geolocation criterion, from a wireless mobile device;

receive a wireless mobile device geographic location from the wireless mobile device;

access the database;

compare the search criteria and the information about the goods, services and/or places of interest to determine if at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interested has attributes that match the search criteria, including determining a distance between the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest and the mobile wireless device location to determine if the geolocation criterion is met; and

send to the wireless mobile device an indication of the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest that match the search criteria, wherein the indication includes at least one review or rating of the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the server is further configured to receive from the wireless mobile device information or insight regarding the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the server is further configured to enable the user to request further information about the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the geolocation criterion varies with a geographic location of the wireless mobile device, and wherein the server is further configured to:

receive from the wireless mobile device an updated geographic location of the wireless mobile device; and

update the geolocation criterion based on the updated geographic location of the wireless mobile device.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the server is further configured to transmit to the wireless mobile device information about multiple goods, services and/or places of interest whose profiles match the search criteria, including the geolocation criterion.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the server is further configured to receive an updated user profile from the communication device of the user.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the server is further configured to enable the user to contact an entity associated with the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing computer code, configured for execution on electronic processing hardware, for notifying a user using a wireless mobile device about goods, services and/or places of interest having attributes that match one or more search criteria of the user, including a geolocation criterion, comprising:

code for receiving the search criteria from the wireless mobile device;

code for receiving a wireless mobile device geographic location from the wireless mobile device;

code for accessing information about at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest;

code for comparing the search criteria and the information about the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest to determine if the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interested has attributes that match the search criteria, including determining a distance between the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest and the mobile wireless device location to determine if the geolocation criterion is met; and

code for sending to the wireless mobile device an indication of the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest that match the search criteria, wherein the indication includes at least one review or rating of the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the computer code further comprises:

code for receiving from the wireless mobile device information or insight regarding the at least one of the goods, services and/or places of interest.
