Abstract

A head covering air filtering device containing a rigid component including a transparent face shield, a fabric component, wherein the rigid component and the fabric component combine to cover an entire head of a user and form a seal around the user's neck. The device further includes an intake filter to filter all intake air entering the device, an exhaust filter to filter all exhaust air exiting the device, and an air mover causing intake air to enter the device and exhaust air to exit the device.

Claims (36)

1. A head covering air filtering device comprising:

a rigid component comprising a rigid, oval-shaped frame and a transparent face shield, the oval-shaped frame comprising a top, oval-shaped edge, and the transparent face shield comprising a bottom oval-shaped edge attached along the entire top, oval-shaped edge of the frame;

wherein a bottom portion of the oval-shaped frame is configured to pass below the chin of a user and an upper portion of the oval-shaped frame is configured to pass above the user's forehead;

a fabric component, wherein the rigid component and the fabric component are configured to combine to cover an entire head of the user and configured to form a seal around the user's neck;

an intake filter located on the rigid oval-shaped frame to filter all intake air entering the device;

an exhaust filter located on the rigid oval-shaped frame to filter all exhaust air exiting the device; and

an air mover affixed to the oval-shaped frame causing intake air to enter the device and exhaust air to exit the device.

The device of claim 1 , wherein a top portion of the transparent face shield is configured to extend above the user's eyes, a bottom portion of the transparent face shield is configured to extend below the user's mouth and a first and second side portion of the transparent face shield is configured to extend beyond the user's side peripheral vision.

3. The device of claim 2 wherein the top portion of the transparent face shield is configured to extend above the user's forehead and the bottom portion of the transparent face shield is configured to extend below the user's chin.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the transparent face shield is in the shape of a hemi-ellipsoid.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the transparent face shield is attached to a forward side of the frame and wherein the fabric component is attached to a rearward side of the frame.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the fabric component is formed of a single piece.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the fabric component possesses enough elasticity to allow a neck encircling portion of the fabric component to be stretched and fit over the user's head, while the device is placed over the user's head.

8. The device of claim 6 , wherein the fabric component comprises a zipper that, when unzipped, allows the device to be fit over the user's head, and when zipped facilitates the fabric component forming a seal around the user's neck.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the fabric component comprises a drawstring to facilitate the fabric component forming a seal around the user's neck.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the rigid component comprises a port located on the rigid oval-shaped frame, and the air mover is disposed over the port, whereby the air mover either pushes filtered intake air into the device or pulls filtered exhaust air out of the device.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the port is an exhaust port, and wherein at least a portion of the fabric component is porous and thus comprises the inlet filter that filters intake air as the intake air is drawn into the device.

12. The device of claim 10 , wherein the port is an intake port, and wherein at least a portion of the fabric component is porous and thus comprises the exhaust filter that filters exhaust air as the exhaust air is pushed out of the device.

13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the air mover is a fan powered by a battery.

14. The device of claim 1 , wherein the top, oval-shaped edge of the rigid, oval-shaped frame is planar.

15. A head covering air filtering device comprising:

a rigid component comprising:

a rigid, oval-shaped frame comprising a top, oval-shaped edge;

a transparent face shield comprising a bottom oval-shaped edge attached along the entire top, oval-shaped edge of the frame;

wherein a bottom portion of the oval-shaped frame is configured to pass below the chin of a user and an upper portion of the oval-shaped frame is configured to pass above the user's forehead;

a first port located on the oval-shaped frame;

a second port located on the oval-shaped frame;

a first filter over the first port that filters air passing therethrough;

a second filter over the second port that filters air passing therethrough;

a fabric component, wherein the rigid component and the fabric component combine to be configured to cover an entire head of a user and configured to form a seal around the user's neck;

a third filter located on the oval-shaped frame or in the fabric component;

a first air mover over the first port causing intake air to enter the device and exhaust air to exit the device; and

a second air mover over the second port causing intake air to enter the device and exhaust air to exit the device.

16. The device of claim 15 , wherein the first and second air movers pull exhaust air out of the device.

17. The device of claim 15 wherein the first and second air movers push intake air into the device.

18. The device of claim 15 , wherein the rigid component comprises a third port and a fourth port, and a fourth filter, wherein the third filter covers the third port and the fourth filter covers the fourth port.
