Personal Air Filtering Device with Safety Features
A personal air filtering device for protecting a user from harm, the device comprising a rigid component comprising a transparent face shield, a fabric component, wherein the face shield and fabric combine to cover an entire head of a user and form a seal around the user's neck, an intake port with an inlet filter, an exhaust port with an exhaust filter, an air mover causing filtered air to enter the intake port and exhaust air to exit the exhaust port, one or more sensors, each configured to detect either an environmental condition or a condition of the user, and a processor configured to receive signals from the one or more sensors and execute a protective measure.
1 . A personal air filtering device for protecting a user from harm, the device comprising:
a rigid component comprising a transparent face shield;
a fabric component, wherein the face shield and fabric combine to cover an entire head of a user and form a seal around the user's neck;
an intake port with an inlet filter;
an exhaust port with an exhaust filter;
an air mover causing filtered air to enter the intake port and exhaust air to exit the exhaust port;
one or more sensors, each configured to detect either an environmental condition or a condition of the user; and
a processor configured to receive signals from the one or more sensors and execute a protective measure.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is configured to detect a toxic atmosphere.
3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the protective measure is to provide an audible and/or visible alert to the user.
4 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the protective measure is to seal the device from the toxic atmosphere.
5 . The device of claim 4 , wherein the protective measure further comprises providing stored safe air to the device.
6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is a proximity sensor configured to detect a possible collision of an object with the user.
7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the protective measure is to provide an audible and/or visible alert to the user.
8 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the protective measure further comprises sending a signal to the object to halt or divert its movement.
9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor is configured to detect a harmful sound, and wherein the protective measure is to block that harmful sound from harming the user's ears.
10 . The device of claim 9 , wherein the harmful sound is blocked by placing a barrier over the user's ears.
11 . The device of claim 9 , wherein the harmful sound is blocked by wave cancellation.
12 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is configured to detect harmful light rays and the protective measure to block the harmful light rights from harming the user's eyes.
13 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more sensors is configured to detect a condition of the user selected from the group consisting of pulse rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, head orientation, closed eyes, and combinations thereof.
14 . The device of claim 13 , wherein the protective measure is to provide an audible and/or visible alert to the user.
15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the protective measure further comprises sending an alert to a coworker.
16 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising an impact resistant top portion supported by a suspension system to provide space above the user's head and to distribute any impact over the user's head.
17 . The device of claim 16 , wherein the impact resistant top portion and the head covering device portion are integrated and can be combined together into a single rigid structure by a locking mechanism and can be separated back into separate portions by manipulating the locking mechanism.
18 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a communication system, whereby the user can communicate with coworkers and whereby alerts can be received from coworkers.
19 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the fabric component is a flame-retardant or flame-resistance.
20 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the transparent face shield comprises an electromagnetic radiation (EMR) film that is ANSI Z87.1+ compliant and the inlet filter is capable of filtering welding fumes.
