Abstract

Described embodiments provide systems and methods for inferring a network type and network conditions. The system includes a packet capturing engine configured to capture a plurality of network packets from a plurality of TCP network connections. The system includes a packet analyzer configured to analyze the plurality of network packets to generate a plurality of metrics. The system includes a network classifier configured to infer network types of the plurality of TCP connections based on the plurality of metrics and at least one classification model. The system also includes a conditions ranking engine configured to estimate a level of network congestion for each TCP connection based on the plurality of metrics and the network types.

Claims (30)

1 . A method comprising

identifying, by one or more processors, a delay of one or more packets caused by network congestion and a type of network of the connection;

determining, by the one or more processors using the type of network and the delay, at least one a level of congestion or a signal quality of the connection; and

providing, by the one or more processors for display, the level of congestion or the signal quality of the connection.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, using one or more metric of the connection, a noise delay of one or more packets caused by a radio link control (RLC) retransmission via the connection.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, the level of congestion or the signal quality using the noise delay.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, using one or more metrics of the connection, a throughput of the connection.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, the level of congestion or the signal quality using the throughput.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the connection comprises a transport layer connection.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising classifying, by the one or more processors, the type of network into one of a mobile network or a fixed network, wherein the mobile network comprises one of a 2G, 3G, 4G or 5G network.

8 . A method comprising

identifying, by one or more processors, a type of network and a throughput for a connection;

determining, by the one or more processors using the type of network and the throughput, a level of congestion or a signal quality of the connection; and

providing, by the one or more processors, for display the level of congestion or the signal quality of the connection.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, using one or more metrics of the connection, a delay of one or more packets caused by a radio link control (RLC) retransmission via the connection.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, the level of congestion or the signal quality using the delay.

11 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors using one or more metrics of the connection, a delay of one or more packets caused by a network congestion of the connection.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, the level of congestion or the signal quality using the delay.

13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the connection comprises a transport layer connection.

14 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising classifying, by the one or more processors, the type of network for the connection into one of a mobile network or a fixed network, wherein the mobile network comprises one of a 2G, 3G, 4G or 5G network.

15 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising determining, by the one or more processors, the throughput of the connect using a number of bytes transferred via the connection without one of network congestion or noise.

16 . A system comprising:

one or more processors, coupled to memory and configured to:

identify a type of network and at least one of a throughput or a delay for a connection;

determine using the type of network and at least one of the delay or the throughput, a level of congestion or a signal quality of the connection; and

provide for display the level of congestion or the signal quality of the connection.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to determine the delay as a noise delay of one or more packets caused by a radio link control (RLC) retransmission via the connection.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to determine the level of congestion or the signal quality using the noise delay.

19 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to determine the delay as a load delay of one or more packets caused by network congestion.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to determine the level of congestion or the signal quality using the load delay.
