Abstract

Systems and methods for detecting the presence of a body in a network without fiducial elements, using signal absorption, and signal forward and reflected backscatter of radio frequency (RF) waves caused by the presence of a biological mass in a communications network.

Claims (24)

1. A method for tracking the movement of a human within a space, the method comprising:

providing a first pair of transceivers disposed a distance apart with a first location within said space between them;

providing a second pair of transceivers disposed a distance apart with a second location within said space between them;

providing a computer server communicably coupled to said first pair and said second pair of transceivers;

said first pair exchanging a first set of wireless signals when a human is present at said first position;

said computer server receiving a first set of signal data from said first pair, said first set of signal data comprising data about properties of said first set of wireless signals;

said computer server creating a first signal profile for wireless communications within said first pair, said first signal profile being based at least in part on said properties of said first set of wireless signals in said first set of signal data when said human is present at said first position;

said second pair exchanging a second set of wireless signals when a human is present at said second position;

said computer server receiving a second set of signal data from said second pair, said second set of signal data comprising data about properties of said second set of wireless signals;

said computer server creating a second signal profile for wireless communications within said second pair, said second signal profile being based at least in part on said properties of said second set of wireless signals in said second set of signal data when said human is present at said second position; and

said computer server tracking said human from said first position to said second position, by determining that said first signal profile is matched and said second signal profile is not matched subsequently followed by determining said second signal profile is matched and said first signal profile is not matched.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said properties of said first set of wireless signals comprise wireless network signal protocol properties determined by said first pair.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said each of said wireless network signal protocol properties is selected from the group consisting of: received signal strength, latency, and bit error rate.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: said computer server being operatively coupled to a second system; said computer server operating said second system until said computer server tracks said human to said second position.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said first pair and said second system are configured to communicate using an identical communication protocol.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein said second system is selected from the group consisting of: an electrical system; a lighting system; a heating, venting, and cooling (HVAC) system; a security system; and, an industrial automation system.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said wireless communication utilizes a protocol selected from the group consisting of: Bluetooth™, Bluetooth™ Low Energy, ANT, ANT+, WiFi, Zigbee, Thread, and Z-Wave.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein said wireless communications from said second transceiver to said first transceiver have a carrier frequency in the range of 850 MHz and 17.5 GHz inclusive.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein said first pair and said second pair include a common transceiver which is in both said first pair and said second pair.

10. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

providing a third pair of transceivers with a third positon between them and a fourth pair of transceivers with a fourth positon between them;

wherein said third pair comprises a first transceiver from said first pair and a first transceiver from said second pair and said fourth pair comprises a second transceiver from said first pair and a second transceiver from said second pair.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

said computer server tracking said human from said third position to said fourth position, by determining that said third signal profile is matched and said first, said second, and said fourth signal profile are not matched subsequently followed by determining said fourth signal profile is matched and said first, said second, and said third signal profile are not matched.
