Abstract

Systems and methods for managing a fleet of ridesharing vehicles are provided. The systems and method for ridesharing include ridesharing between users and a driver that may or may not have access to restricted areas.

Claims (45)

1 . A system for managing a fleet of ridesharing vehicles, the system comprising:

a communications interface configured to receive requests for shared rides from a plurality of users;

at least one processor configured to:

receive via the communications interface, a first request for a shared ride from a first user, the first request including information related to a first pick-up location of the first user and a first desired destination of the first user, wherein the first destination of the first user is within a restricted area;

assign the first user to the first ridesharing vehicle;

receive via the communications interface, a second request for a shared ride from a second user, the second request including information related to a second pick-up location of the second user and a second desired destination of the second user;

determine whether the first rideshare vehicle can pickup the second user based on whether the second user has access to the restricted area; and

if the second user has access to the restricted area, then assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the second user, otherwise assign a second ridesharing vehicle to the second user.

2 . The system of claim 1 wherein the second request for the shared ride includes a credential.

3 . The system of claim 2 wherein the credential is from a user profile of the second user, received via the communications interface, or both.

4 . The system of claim 2 wherein the credential comprises a username, password, entry from a fob, or any combination thereof.

5 . The system of claim 1 wherein if the second user does not have access to the restricted area, then instead of assigning a second ridesharing vehicle to the second user, assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the second user, and drop-off the second user before dropping of the first user.

The system of claim 1 wherein if the second user does not have access to the restricted area, then instead of assigning a second ridesharing vehicle to the second user, set the drop-off location of the first user to a location outside of the restricted area that is within a walkable distance of the first destination.

7 . The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

receive via the communications interface, a third request for a shared ride from a third user, the third request including information related to a third pick-up location of the third user and a third desired destination of the third user;

determine whether the first rideshare vehicle can pickup the third user based on whether the third user has access to the restricted area; and

if the third user has access to the restricted area, then assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the third user, otherwise assign a different ridesharing vehicle to the third user.

8 . The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to select the first ridesharing vehicle from a plurality of ridesharing vehicles based on whether respective drivers of the plurality of ridesharing vehicles have access to the restricted area.

The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to assign one or more ridesharing vehicles from a plurality of ridesharing vehicles to one or more geographical locations based on whether a respective driver of the ridesharing vehicle has access to a restricted area that resides within one or more geographical locations, respectively.

10 . A method for managing a fleet of ridesharing vehicles, the method comprising:

receiving, via a computing device, a first request for a shared ride from a first user, the first request including information related to a first pick-up location of the first user and a first desired destination of the first user, wherein the first destination of the first user is within a restricted area;

assigning, via the computing device, the first user to the first ridesharing vehicle; receiving a second request for a shared ride from a second user, the second request including information related to a second pick-up location of the second user and a second desired destination of the second user;

determining, via the computing device, whether the first rideshare vehicle can pickup the second user based on whether the second user has access to the restricted area; and

if the second user has access to the restricted area, then assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the second user, otherwise assign a second ridesharing vehicle to the second user.

11 . The method of claim 10 wherein the second request for the shared ride includes a credential.

12 . The method of claim 11 wherein the credential is from a user profile of the second user, received via the communications interface, or both.

13 . The method of claim 11 wherein the credential comprises a username, password, entry from a fob, or any combination thereof.

14 . The method of claim 10 wherein if the second user does not have access to the restricted area, then instead of assigning a second ridesharing vehicle to the second user, assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the second user, and drop-off the second user before dropping of the first user.

The method of claim 10 wherein if the second user does not have access to the restricted area, then instead of assigning a second ridesharing vehicle to the second user, set the drop-off location of the first user to a location outside of the restricted area that is within a walkable distance of the first destination.

16 . The method of claim 10 further comprising:

receiving, via the computing device, a third request for a shared ride from a third user, the third request including information related to a third pick-up location of the third user and a third desired destination of the third user;

determining, via the computing device, whether the first rideshare vehicle can pickup the third user based on whether the third user has access to the restricted area; and

if the third user has access to the restricted area, then assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the third user, otherwise assign a different ridesharing vehicle to the third user.

17 . The method of claim 10 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to select the first ridesharing vehicle from a plurality of ridesharing vehicles based on whether respective drivers of the plurality of ridesharing vehicles have access to the restricted area.

The method of claim 10 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to assign one or more ridesharing vehicles from a plurality of ridesharing vehicles to one or more geographical locations based on whether a respective driver of the ridesharing vehicle has access to a restricted area that resides within one or more geographical locations, respectively.

19 . A non-transitory computer program product comprising instructions which, when the program is executed cause the computer to:

receive a first request for a shared ride from a first user, the first request including information related to a first pick-up location of the first user and a first desired destination of the first user, wherein the first destination of the first user is within a restricted area;

assign the first user to the first ridesharing vehicle;

receive a second request for a shared ride from a second user, the second request including information related to a second pick-up location of the second user and a second desired destination of the second user;

determine whether the first rideshare vehicle can pickup the second user based on whether the second user has access to the restricted area; and

if the second user has access to the restricted area, then assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the second user, otherwise assign a second ridesharing vehicle to the second user.

20 . The non-transitory computer program product of claim 19 comprising further instructions which, when the program is executed cause the computer to:

receive a third request for a shared ride from a third user, the third request including information related to a third pick-up location of the third user and a third desired destination of the third user;

determine whether the first rideshare vehicle can pickup the third user based on whether the third user has access to the restricted area; and

if the third user has access to the restricted area, then assign the first ridesharing vehicle to the third user, otherwise assign a different ridesharing vehicle to the third user.
