Abstract

A mounting device including a base having an internal cavity and an upper portion above the base. The upper portion extends upward from the base and includes a vertical member defining opposed first and second faces above the base. An aperture is formed through the upper portion and extends through the first and second faces. The base extends outward, beyond each of the first and second faces.

Claims (42)

1. A mounting device comprising:

a base having an internal cavity configured to receive a sealant such that the sealant fills the internal cavity and contacts a mounting surface directly upon implementation of the mounting device thereon;

an upper portion extending upward from the base and including a vertical member defining opposed first and second faces above the base;

an aperture formed through the upper portion and extending through the first and second faces; and

wherein a sidewall of the base extends outward such that the base and the internal cavity extend beyond each of the first and second faces.

2. The mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising minor sides flanking the first and second faces, wherein the base and the internal cavity each extend outward beyond each of the minor sides.

3. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the aperture is transverse to the first and second faces.

4. The mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising a port formed through the base and in communication with the internal cavity.

5. The mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising a vent formed through the base and in communication with the internal cavity.

6. The mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising openings for receiving fasteners, each opening formed in the base below the upper portion.

7. The mounting device of claim 6 , further comprising an open bottom of the base in communication with the internal cavity, the openings each have an axis which is oblique to a normal line extending normal to a plane defined by the open bottom, such that at least one of the fasteners applied to one of the openings is oblique to the open bottom.

8. The mounting device of claim 6 , wherein at least two of the openings flank the upper portion.

9. A mounting device comprising:

a base having an internal cavity;

an upper portion extending upward from the base and including a vertical member defining opposed first and second faces above the base;

an aperture formed through the upper portion and extending through the first and second faces;

at least two openings formed in the base, the at least two openings for receiving fasteners through the base and the internal cavity, wherein the at least two openings flank the upper portion;

a flowable sealant disposed within the internal cavity against a mounting surface upon implementation of the mounting device thereto;

a channel surrounding the internal cavity; and

a seal disposed within the channel to compress against the mounting surface.

10. The mounting device of claim 9 , wherein the at least two openings are disposed on opposed sides of the base and flank one of the first and second faces of the upper portion.

11. The mounting device of claim 9 , further comprising minor sides of the upper portion flanking the first and second faces, wherein the internal cavity extends outward beyond each of the first and second faces and the minor sides.

12. A mounting device comprising:

a base having an internal cavity;

an upper portion above the base, wherein the upper portion extends upward from the base and includes a vertical member defining opposed first and second faces above the base;

an aperture formed through the upper portion and extending through the first and second faces;

a seal under the base which extends outward beyond each of the first and second faces of the upper portion; and

a channel surrounding the internal cavity,

wherein the seal is disposed within the channel to compress against a mounting surface upon implementation of the mounting device thereon.

13. The mounting device of claim 12 , further comprising a flowable sealant applied to the internal cavity of the base, such that, when the base is applied to the mounting surface, the flowable sealant is contained against the mounting surface and the seal.

14. The mounting device of claim 12 , wherein the internal cavity extends outward beyond each of the first and second faces of the upper portion.

15. A mounting device comprising:

a base having an open bottom, an internal cavity, and a channel surrounding the internal cavity;

an opening through the base for receiving a fastener when the mounting device is secured to a roof surface, the opening in communication with the internal cavity;

an upper portion above the base, wherein the upper portion extends upward from the base and includes a vertical member defining a face,

an aperture formed through the upper portion and the face in a direction transverse to the face;

a port in the base via which a flowable sealant is disposable within the internal cavity against the roof surface upon implementation of the mounting device thereto; and

a seal disposed within the channel to compress against the roof surface.

16. The mounting device of claim 15 , wherein the internal cavity extends outward beyond each of the first and second faces.

17. The mounting device of claim 15 , wherein the channel extends outward beyond each of the first and second faces.

18. The mounting device of claim 15 , further comprising a port formed through the base and in communication with the internal cavity.

19. The mounting device of claim 15 , further comprising a vent formed through the base and in communication with the internal cavity.
