Abstract

A system, method, and computer program product for collaborative online gaming, including at least one of providing a central repository master browser system; providing an experience calibrated match-making service; providing a dynamic multiplayer server component auto deployment and aggregation system; providing a lobby centric simultaneous and collaborative client game play launching feature; and providing a video game screen over-layer technology giving users access to a control interface while inside a video game being played.

Claims (34)

1. A system comprising:

a data store storing host application data comprising instructions for executing a host application system and game application data comprising instructions for executing a game application; and

a processor configured to communicate with the data store and execute a host application system, the host application system configured to:

provide a host application interface including a host application service interface portion configured to provide access to at least one host application service, and a game selection portion including at least one control configured to launch a game application, wherein the at least one host application service is configured to communicate with a network-based application server for data associated with operation of the at least one host application service;

generate instructions configured to launch the game application based, at least in part, on input received by the at least one control from a user, wherein the game application is configured to execute a multi-layered interface including a game application interface and a host application overlay interface, wherein the host application overlay interface operates within the game application;

during runtime of the game application, receive a defined user input configured to actuate the host application overlay interface within the game application; and

generate instructions configured to open a voice channel within the host application interface based, at least in part, on input received by host application overlay interface, wherein the voice channel is open to one or more other users through the network-based application server, wherein the voice channel operates independent of the execution of the game application.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one host application service is a messaging service and a network-based application server is configured to communicate messages between the user and one or more other users through the network-based application server.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein an instance of a chat conversation initiated prior to launching the game application is accessible during runtime of the game application through the host application overlay interface.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the messaging service is a text-based messaging service.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the voice channel is implemented using a voice over IP (VOIP) service.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the game application is a multiplayer game application configured to communicate with a game application server during operation of the game application.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the at least one host application service is a remote server control interface for controlling aspects of the operation of a multiplayer game application server.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein one or more users are automatically placed in the voice channel when a session of the multiplayer game application is initiated.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein voice channel remains open after the end of the session of the multiplayer game application.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein host application interface includes a voice channel control settings interface configured to: control creation of voice channels, control access levels of users to the voice channels, move users between voice channels, kick users, ban users, and mute users.

11. A computer implemented method comprising:

generating instructions to provide a host application interface, the host application interface including a game selection portion including at least one control configured to launch a game application, and a service interface portion configured to provide access to at least one host application service, the at least one host application service configured to communicate with a network-based application server for data associated with operation of the at least one host application service;

generating instructions configured to launch the game application based, at least in part, on input received by the at least one control from a user, wherein the game application is configured to execute a multi-layered interface including a game application interface and a host application overlay interface, wherein the host application overlay interface operates within the game application;

during runtime of the game application, receiving a defined user input configured to actuate the host application overlay interface within the game application; and

generating instructions configured to open a voice channel within the host application interface based, at least in part, on input received by the host application overlay interface, wherein the voice channel is open to one or more other users through the network-based application server, wherein the voice channel operates independent of the execution of the game application.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the at least one host application service is a messaging service and the network-based application server is configured to communicate messages between the user and one or more other users through the network-based application server.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising instantiating an instance of a chat conversation prior to launching the game application, and accessing the chat conversation during runtime of the game application through the host application overlay interface.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the voice channel is implemented using a voice over IP (VOIP) service.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the game application is a multiplayer game application configured to communicate with a game application server during operation of the game application.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the at least one host application service is a remote server control interface for controlling aspects of the operation of a multiplayer game application server.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein one or more users are automatically placed in the voice channel when a session of the multiplayer game application is initiated.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein voice channel remains open after the end of the session of the multiplayer game application.

19. The method of claim 11 , wherein host application interface includes a voice channel control settings interface configured to: control creation of voice channels, control access levels of users to the voice channels, move users between voice channels, kick users, ban users, and mute users.

20. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a computing system, cause the computing system to:

generate instructions to provide a host application interface, the host application interface including a game selection portion including at least one control configured to launch a game application, and a service interface portion configured to provide access to at least one host application service, the at least one host application service configured to communicate with a network-based application server for data associated with operation of the at least one host application service;

generate instructions configured to launch the game application based, at least in part, on input received by the at least one control from a user, wherein the game application is configured to execute a multi-layered interface including a game application interface and a host application overlay interface, wherein the host application overlay interface operates within the game application;

during runtime of the game application, receive a defined user input configured to actuate the host application overlay interface within the game application; and

generate instructions configured to open a voice channel within the host application interface based, at least in part, on input received by the host application overlay interface, wherein the voice channel is open to one or more other users through the network-based application server, wherein the voice channel operates independent of the execution of the game application.
