Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed to identify the operations/processes performed by one or more virtual machines. In one example method of operation, the system may perform identifying processes currently operating in an operating system and recording process information corresponding to each of the processes in a memory. The method may also include determining a priority for each of the processes currently operating in the operating system and incrementing a current priority of at least one of the processes.

Claims (28)

1. A method, comprising:

incrementing, via a processor, a current priority of at least one process of a plurality of processes currently operating in an operating system of a participating virtual machine to create a modified priority of the at least one process;

identifying an efficiency of the at least one process over a predefined number of tasks the participating virtual machine is required to perform falls below a predetermined threshold value associated with an established node state, which is used as a basis to identify whether the at least one process is currently utilizing an amount of central processing unit (CPU) usage associated with the modified priority assigned to the at least one process; and

modifying a present resource allocation utilized by the participating virtual machine to increase or decrease at least one operational parameter included in the present resource allocation.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein incrementing the current priority of the at least one process comprises modifying the at least one process to have an increased amount of the CPU utilization.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the current priority is increased by one increment level.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising decrementing a priority for at least one of the plurality of processes.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying, via the processor, the plurality of processes currently operating in the operating system.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, via the processor, the current priority for each of the plurality of processes currently operating in the operating system.

7. A network entity, comprising:

a memory storing instructions associated with a software module,

a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured by the instructions to:

increment a current priority of at least one process of a plurality of processes currently operating in an operating system of a participating virtual machine to create a modified priority of the at least one process;

identify an efficiency of the at least one process over a predefined number of tasks the participating virtual machine is required to perform falls below a predetermined threshold value associated with an established node state, which is used as a basis to identify whether the at least one process is currently utilizing an amount of the processor usage associated with the modified priority assigned to the at least one process; and

modify a present resource allocation utilized by the participating virtual machine to increase or decrease at least one operational parameter included in the present resource allocation.

8. The network entity of claim 7 , wherein the current priority of the at least one process is incremented by modifying the at least one process to have an increased amount of the processor utilization.

9. The network entity of claim 7 , wherein the current priority is increased by one increment level.

10. The network entity of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further configured by the instructions to decrement a priority for at least one of the plurality of processes.

11. The network entity of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further configured by the instructions to identify the plurality of processes currently operating in the operating system.

12. The network entity of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further configured by the instructions to determine the current priority for each of the plurality of processes currently operating in the operating system.

13. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium configured to store instructions that when executed cause a processor to perform:

incrementing, via a processor, a current priority of at least one process of a plurality of processes currently operating in an operating system of a participating virtual machine to create a modified priority of the at least one process;

identifying an efficiency of the at least one process over a predefined number of tasks the participating virtual machine is required to perform falls below a predetermined threshold value associated with an established node state, which is used as a basis to identify whether the at least one process is currently utilizing an amount of central processing unit (CPU) usage associated with the modified priority assigned to the at least one process; and

modifying a present resource allocation utilized by the participating virtual machine to increase or decrease at least one operational parameter included in the present resource allocation.

14. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein incrementing the current priority of the at least one process comprises modifying the at least one process to have an increased amount of the CPU utilization.

15. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the current priority is increased by one increment level.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the processor is further configured to perform decrementing a priority for at least one of the plurality of processes.

17. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the processor is further configured to identify the plurality of processes currently operating in the operating system.
