Abstract

A cleaning head for a floor cleaner including a brushroll assembly configured to clean a surface to be cleaned and reduce brushroll maintenance, such as removing hair and debris wrapped around the brushroll assembly and removing debris from a bearing of the brushroll assembly. The brushroll assembly may comprise agitator members to assist in cleaning and maintenance.

Claims (36)

1 . A cleaning head for a floor cleaner comprising:

a housing;

a brushroll chamber;

a brushroll assembly mounted in the brushroll chamber,

wherein the brushroll assembly includes

an agitator body having a first end and a second end,

a cleaning member coupled to the agitator body extending longitudinally between the first end and the second end, the cleaning member including a vane extending outwardly from the agitator body, and a plurality of cylindrical portions extending outwardly from the agitator body spaced along the vane, the cylindrical portions being integral with the vane.

2 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein the height of the plurality of spaced cylindrical portions extending outwardly from the agitator body is greater than the height of the vane extending outwardly from the agitator body.

3 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of cylindrical portions are spaced in a pattern along the vane.

4 . The cleaning head of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of cylindrical portions are spaced equidistant from an adjacent cylindrical portion along the vane.

5 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein the cylindrical portions extend radially from the agitator body.

6 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions has a circular cross-sectional shape.

7 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions have a polygonal cross section.

8 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein the cleaning member extends helically along the agitator body.

9 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein the cleaning member is elastomeric.

10 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein the vane and cylindrical portions are integrally molded.

11 . A cleaning head for a floor cleaner comprising:

a housing;

a brushroll chamber;

a brushroll assembly rotatably mounted in the brushroll chamber,

wherein the brushroll assembly includes

an agitator body having a first end and a second end,

a cleaning member coupled to the agitator body extending longitudinally between the first end and the second end, the cleaning member including a plurality of cylindrical portions extending outwardly from the agitator body a first height, the plurality of cylindrical portions spaced along the agitator body, each cylindrical portion connected to the adjacent spaced cylindrical portion by a webbed portion, the webbed portion extending outwardly from the agitator body a second height.

12 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions has a polygonal cross-sectional shape.

13 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions has a circular cross-sectional shape.

14 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein the first height of each cylindrical portion is the same from the first end and the second end.

15 . The cleaning head of claim 1 , wherein the cylindrical portions extend radially from the agitator body.

16 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein the second height is between 50% and 98% of the first height.

17 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein the cleaning member extends helically along the agitator body.

18 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein the webbed portion includes a front side in a direction of rotation and a rearward side opposite the front side, wherein an axis through the longitudinal center of one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions is aligned with or forward of the front side of the webbed portion.

19 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein the webbed portion includes a front side in a direction of rotation and a rearward side opposite the front side, wherein an axis through the longitudinal center of one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions is aligned with or rearward of the rearward side of the webbed portion.

20 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions has a cross-sectional dimension larger adjacent the agitator body than the cross-sectional dimension distal the agitator body.

21 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein one or more of the plurality of cylindrical portions has a cross-sectional dimension between 1.1 and 10 times the thickness of the webbed portion.

22 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein each cylindrical portion is spaced from the adjacent cylindrical portion by between 2 millimeters and 20 millimeters.

23 . The cleaning head of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of cylindrical portions are spaced in a longitudinally extending pattern along the agitator body.

24 . The cleaning head of claim 21 , wherein the distance between adjacent cylindrical portions is the same from the first end to the second end.
