Abstract

An information handling system includes at least one air mover configured to cool a device of the information handling system. An air mover control system may control a speed of the air mover at or below a first air mover target speed to maintain a temperature of the device at or below a target temperature that includes a first target temperature and a second target temperature. If the air mover speed is greater than a second air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is greater than the first target temperature, then the target temperature may be set to the second target temperature. If the air mover speed is less than the first air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is less than the first target temperature, then the target temperature may be set to the first target temperature.

Claims (34)

1. A method comprising:

maintaining, by a processor, a device at or below a target temperature based on an acoustic limit that includes a first acoustic limit and a second acoustic limit, wherein the target temperature includes a first target temperature and a second target temperature;

shifting the target temperature based on whether an operation of the device is within the acoustic limit, wherein the shifting the target temperature further includes:

if an acoustic level of the device during the operation is greater than the second acoustic limit and a temperature of the device is greater than the first target temperature then setting the target temperature to the second target temperature; and

if the acoustic level of the device during the operation is less than the first acoustic limit and the temperature of the device is less than the first target temperature then setting the target temperature to the first target temperature.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein setting the target temperature to the second target temperature allows throttling of the operation of the device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein setting the target temperature to the first target temperature allows for a normal operation of the device.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising increasing the acoustic limit based on the target temperature.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising decreasing the acoustic limit based on the target temperature.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the shifting of the target temperature further comprising if the acoustic level of the device during the operation is greater than the second acoustic limit and temperature of the device less than or equal to the first target temperature then keep the target temperature.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the shifting of the target temperature further comprising if the acoustic level of the device during the operation is then than the first acoustic limit and temperature of the device greater to the first target temperature then keep the target temperature.

8. An information handling system, comprising:

at least one air mover configured to cool a device of the information handling system; and

an air mover control system configured to:

control a speed of the air mover at or below a first air mover target speed to maintain a temperature of the device at or below a target temperature that includes a first target temperature and a second target temperature, wherein the control of the speed further includes:

monitoring the temperature of the device and the air mover speed;

if the air mover speed is greater than a second air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is greater than the first target temperature then setting the target temperature to the second target temperature; and

if the air mover speed is less than the first air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is less than the first target temperature, then setting the target temperature to the first target temperature.

9. The information handling system of claim 8 , wherein when the target temperature is set to the second target temperature allows for throttled operation of the device.

10. The information handling system of claim 8 , wherein when the target temperature is set to the first target temperature allows for full operation of the device.

11. The information handling system of claim 8 , wherein the air mover control system is further configured to increase the air mover speed based on the target temperature.

12. The information handling system of claim 8 , wherein the air mover control system is further configured to decrease the air mover speed based on the target temperature.

13. The information handling system of claim 8 , wherein the control of the air mover speed further comprising if the air mover speed is greater than the second air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is less than or equal to the first target temperature then keep the target temperature.

14. A non-transitory computer-readable medium including code that when executed performs a method, the method comprising:

maintaining operation of a device at or below a target temperature that includes a first target temperature or a second target temperature;

controlling a speed of an air mover at or below a first air mover target speed to maintain a temperature of the device at or below the first target temperature;

if the air mover speed is greater than a second air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is greater than the first target temperature, then setting the target temperature to the second target temperature; and

if the air mover speed is less than the first air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is less than the first target temperature, then setting the target temperature to the first target temperature.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the setting of the target temperature to the second target temperature allows throttling the operation of the device.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the setting of the target temperature to the first target temperature allows for normal operation of the device.

17. The method of claim 14 , further comprising increasing the air mover speed based on the target temperature.

18. The method of claim 14 , further comprising decreasing the air mover speed based on the target temperature.

19. The method of claim 14 , wherein the controlling of the air mover speed further comprising if the air mover speed is greater than the second air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is less than or equal to the first target temperature then keep the target temperature.

20. The method of claim 14 , wherein the controlling of the air mover speed further comprising if the air mover speed is greater than the second air mover target speed and the temperature of the device is less than or equal to the first target temperature then keep the target temperature.
