Abstract

Systems and methods may be used to detect an inaudible signal associated with a first audible signal of an audio input. The inaudible signal may include a frequency signature. The frequency signature may be associated with an electronic device type. The systems and methods may activate a response monitor. The response monitor may be activated for a predetermined time. The response monitor may be activated responsive to the frequency signature. The systems and methods may determine a content characteristic of the first audible signal based on the inaudible signal. The systems and methods may include generating a message. The message may be based on the content characteristic. The systems and methods may include transmitting the message. The message may be transmitted on a condition that a second audible signal corresponds to the message and is received within the predetermined time.

Claims (30)

1. A method comprising:

detecting, by an electronic device, an audible signal emitted by a media device and an inaudible signal simultaneously emitted by the media device, the inaudible signal including a signature associated with the electronic device and a content identifier;

in response to the detecting of the inaudible signal activating, at the electronic device, a monitor to detect a user gesture, wherein the monitor is activated for a predetermined time responsive to the signature;

determining a characteristic of the audible signal based on the content identifier of the simultaneously emitted inaudible signal; and

transmitting a message containing the content identifier, wherein the message is based on the characteristic of the audible signal that was emitted simultaneously with the inaudible signal, on a condition that: (a) the user gesture corresponds to the message, and (b) that the user gesture is received within the predetermined time.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the inaudible signal includes an inaudible wake command.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device is a voice-activated electronic device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the monitor is a voice response monitor.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein activating the monitor comprises:

activating the monitor responsive to a wake command and the signature; or

activating the monitor without the wake command and responsive to the signature.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein activating the monitor comprises:

activating a camera.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user gesture is a sign gait that is a virtual fingerprint of a user.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic includes a content context of an audio input associated with the audible signal.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is a contextual response and, the method further comprises queuing the contextual response, to be sent by the electronic device, based on the audible signal and the inaudible signal simultaneously emitted by the media device.

10. An electronic device comprising:

a receiver configured to detect, by the electronic device, a first audible signal emitted by a media device and an inaudible signal simultaneously emitted by the media device, the inaudible signal including one or more frequency signatures associated with the electronic device and a content identifier;

a processor configured to:

in response to the detection of the inaudible signal, activate, at the electronic device, a response monitor for a predetermined time to detect a user gesture response based on the one or more frequency signatures; and

generate a message containing the content identifier, wherein the message is based on a content characteristic of the first audible signal that was emitted simultaneously with the inaudible signal, and wherein the content characteristic is determined based on the content identifier; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the message to an environment control device on a condition that: (a) the user gesture response corresponds to the message, and (b) that the user gesture is received within the predetermined time.

11. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the environment control device is at least one of a lighting device, a thermostat, a camera, a wearable article, an aroma dispersion device, or a furniture article.

12. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the one or more frequency signatures correspond to one or more voice-activated electronic device types.

13. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the response monitor further detects a user voice response.

14. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to activate the response monitor with or without a wake command.

15. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to activate a camera to activate the response monitor.

16. The electronic device of claim 10 further comprising:

a microphone configured to receive a second audible signal as a voice input.

17. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the message is a contextual response and, the electronic device is further configured to queue the contextual response, to be sent by the electronic device, based on the first audible signal and the inaudible signal simultaneously emitted by the media device.
