Abstract

A process and system provides for atraumatic preparation of morselized Tissue Particles (TP)s, such as Full Thickness Skin Graft Particles (FTSGPs), cartilage particles and other organ tissue particles, in a liquid medium. The resultant tissue product may be a suspension of Tissue Particles in an aqueous solution and containing highly viable cells and may be rapidly prepared at bedside or in the operating room and conveniently delivered to a patient through a syringe or similar applicator. The morselized Tissues Particles may be used for surgical applications including wound healing, cosmetic surgery, and orthopedic cartilage repairs.

Claims (27)

1. A system for treating viable organ tissue of a patient comprising:

an aseptic container for forming therein viable organ tissue morsels in a fluid suspension; an aseptic morselizing device configured to repeatedly atraumatically slice said organ tissue while retaining tissue viability, the morselizing device supported within the aseptic container;

an opening in the container in fluid communication with a detachable aseptic dispensing device;

a separator to separate the formed morsels from the fluid;

the detachable dispensing device for receiving the aseptic formed morsels; and

wherein the formed morsels travel through the opening in the container and into the dispensing device.

2. The system of claim 1 , further including a fluid drain outlet.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the opening in the container is positioned below where the morsels are formed.

4. The system of claim 1 , further including a removable or adjoined cover for the container.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein container includes an isolation chamber having an outlet and inlet for removing morsels and recirculating morsels back into the container for further processing.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the isolation chamber includes filter channels.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the isolation chamber includes a filter.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the filter comprises a cylindrical filter.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the cylindrical filter is positioned in the isolation chamber.

10. The system of claim 9 , further including a piston plunger for positioning within the cylindrical filter to facilitate transfer of the morsels from the cylindrical filter into the dispensing device.

11. The system of claim 5 , wherein the isolation chamber includes the opening for receiving the detachable dispensing device.

12. The system of claim 4 , wherein the cover includes a mounting rod having a head biased within a cavity by a spring.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the dispensing device includes a filter.

14. The system of claim 1 , further including a recirculating conduit in fluid communication with the container to recirculate morsels into the container such that smaller morsels may be formed.

15. The system of claim 1 , further including a fluid-driving pump for assisting in morsel circulation.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the separator includes a filter in fluid connection with the container, for separating suspended morsels from fluid.

17. The system of claim 16 wherein the detachable dispensing device is a syringe.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the separator includes a centrifugal isolation device, in fluid connection with the container, for separating suspended morsels from fluid.

19. The system of claim 1 , further including a rotating drive shaft.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the morselizing device is operatively connected to the drive shaft.

21. The system of claim 19 , further including an agitation device operatively connected to the drive shaft.

22. The system of claim 1 , further including a channel in fluid communication with the dispensing device and the container, wherein the channel includes a valve.
