Abstract

A bone implant composition and methods thereof include bone material made into various implant shapes including a cylinder having an outermost layer and an inner layer completely surrounded by the outermost layer. The bone implant compositions and methods include a bag or cylindrical tube made from a bone material which may be filled with additional bone material.

Claims (9)

1 . A method of delivering a bone repair composition to a subject, comprising:

implanting a bone implant into the subject; and

suturing the implant closed prior to implanting into the subject,

wherein the bone implant comprises:

a hollow cylindrical or semi-cylindrical tube shaped implant formed by placing a plurality of demineralized bone fibers (DBFs) in a cylindrical or semi-cylindrical mold, wherein the plurality of DBFs are cut from demineralized bone in a direction parallel to the orientation of collagen fibers to produce DBFs having a length in a range from about 1 cm to about 30 cm and a width in a range from about 0.05 mm to about 4 mm.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the bone implant comprises an outermost layer of bone material that is annealed by heating and/or dehydrothermal treatment.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the bone implant further comprises a synthetic bone graft substitute, allograft bone chips, xenograft bone chips, or any form of demineralized bone matrix DBM.

4 . The method of making a bone implant of claim 1 , wherein the DBFs have a length in a range from about 3 cm to about 18 cm.

5 . The method of making a bone implant of claim 4 , wherein the DBFs have a width in a range from about 0.2 mm to about 1 mm.
