Abstract

A system, method, and computer-readable medium are disclosed for performing a data center monitoring and management operation. The data center monitoring and management operation includes: monitoring data center assets within a data center; identifying an issue within the data center, the issue being associated with an operational situation associated with a particular component of the data center; associating the issue with a particular point in time; and, informing a user about the issue, the informing including information regarding the particular point in time, the informing including a graphical depiction of the particular component of the data center and the issue within the data center.

Claims (64)

1. A computer-implementable method for performing a data center monitoring and management operation, comprising:

monitoring data center assets within a data center;

identifying an issue within the data center, the issue being associated with an operational situation associated with a particular component of the data center, the issue having an associated data center alert;

associating the issue with a particular point in time; and,

presenting information about the issue, the presenting including presenting information regarding the particular point in time, the information including a graphical depiction of the particular component of the data center, the issue within the data center and a graphical depiction of a corresponding data center alert timeline, the graphical depiction of the particular component being part of a graphically displayed device in the data center that includes one or more structurally represented components, the graphical depiction of the particular component correlating the operational issue associated with the particular component within the data center to the associated data center alert occurring at the particular point in time during a corresponding data center alert timeline, the correlating providing a graphical symbol superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component, a graphical depiction of the particular component of the data center and the graphical symbol superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component graphically depicting a plurality of data center alerts as the plurality of data center alerts change during a duration of the timeline, at least some of the plurality of data center alerts corresponding to respective graphical symbols superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component; and wherein

the graphical depiction of the corresponding data center alert timeline includes an associated depiction of a time selector; and,

the particular point in time is one of a plurality of points in time, the time selector enabling a user to select the particular point of time from the plurality of points in time.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the issue includes an associated issue priority; and,

the informing the user about the issue includes information regarding the issue priority of the issue, the information regarding the issue priority of the issue being presented via a graphical depiction of the issue priority, the graphical depiction of the issue priority being superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component having the operational issue.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the information about the issue includes information regarding the issue for at least some of the plurality of points in time.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing a data center monitoring and management console user interface; and wherein

the graphical depiction of the particular component and the issue are presented via the data center monitoring and management console user interface.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein:

the data center monitoring and management user interface includes an alerts status portion, the alerts status portion presenting information regarding a status of the issue.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein:

the data center monitoring and management user interface includes an alert detail portion, the alert detail portion presenting detailed information regarding the issue.

7. A system comprising:

a processor;

a data bus coupled to the processor; and

a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium being coupled to the data bus, the computer program code interacting with a plurality of computer operations and comprising instructions executable by the processor and configured for:

monitoring data center assets within a data center;

identifying an issue within the data center, the issue being associated with an operational situation associated with a particular component of the data center, the issue having an associated data center alert;

associating the issue with a particular point in time; and,

presenting information about the issue, the presenting including presenting information regarding the particular point in time, the information including a graphical depiction of the particular component of the data center, the issue within the data center and a graphical depiction of a corresponding data center alert timeline, the graphical depiction of the particular component being part of a graphically displayed device in the data center that includes one or more structurally represented components, the graphical depiction of the particular component correlating the operational issue associated with the particular component within the data center to the associated data center alert occurring at the particular point in time during a corresponding data center alert timeline, the correlating providing a graphical symbol superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component, a graphical depiction of the particular component of the data center and the graphical symbol superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component graphically depicting a plurality of data center alerts as the plurality of data center alerts change during a duration of the timeline, at least some of the plurality of data center alerts corresponding to respective graphical symbols superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component; and wherein

the graphical depiction of the corresponding data center alert timeline includes an associated depiction of a time selector; and,

the particular point in time is one of a plurality of points in time, the time selector enabling a user to select the particular point of time from the plurality of points in time.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the issue includes an associated issue priority; and,

the informing the user about the issue includes information regarding the issue priority of the issue, the information regarding the issue priority of the issue being presented via a graphical depiction of the issue priority, the graphical depiction of the issue priority being superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component having the operational issue.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the information about the issue includes information regarding the issue for at least some of the plurality of points in time.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor are further configured for:

providing a data center monitoring and management console user interface; and wherein

the graphical depiction of the particular component and the issue are presented via the data center monitoring and management console user interface.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein:

the data center monitoring and management user interface includes an alerts status portion, the alerts status portion presenting information regarding a status of the issue.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein:

the data center monitoring and management user interface includes an alert detail portion, the alert detail portion presenting detailed information regarding the issue.

13. A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the computer program code comprising computer executable instructions configured for:

monitoring data center assets within a data center;

identifying an issue within the data center, the issue being associated with an operational situation associated with a particular component of the data center, the issue having an associated data center alert;

associating the issue with a particular point in time; and,

presenting information about the issue, the presenting including presenting information regarding the particular point in time, the information including a graphical depiction of the particular component of the data center, the issue within the data center and a graphical depiction of a corresponding data center alert timeline, the graphical depiction of the particular component being part of a graphically displayed device in the data center that includes one or more structurally represented components, the graphical depiction of the particular component correlating the operational issue associated with the particular component within the data center to the associated data center alert occurring at the particular point in time during a corresponding data center alert timeline, the correlating providing a graphical symbol superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component, a graphical depiction of the particular component of the data center and the graphical symbol superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component graphically depicting a plurality of data center alerts as the plurality of data center alerts change during a duration of the timeline, at least some of the plurality of data center alerts corresponding to respective graphical symbols superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component; and wherein

the graphical depiction of the corresponding data center alert timeline includes an associated depiction of a time selector; and,

the particular point in time is one of a plurality of points in time, the time selector enabling a user to select the particular point of time from the plurality of points in time.

14. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the issue includes an associated issue priority; and,

the informing the user about the issue includes information regarding the issue priority of the issue, the information regarding the issue priority of the issue being presented via a graphical depiction of the issue priority, the graphical depiction of the issue priority being superimposed over the graphical depiction of the particular component having the operational issue.

15. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the information about the issue includes information regarding the issue for at least some of the plurality of points in time.

16. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer executable instructions are further configured for:

providing a data center monitoring and management console user interface; and wherein

the graphical depiction of the particular component and the issue are presented via the data center monitoring and management console user interface.

17. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein:

the data center monitoring and management user interface includes an alerts status portion, the alerts status portion presenting information regarding a status of the issue.

18. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the computer executable instructions are further configured for:

the data center monitoring and management user interface includes an alert detail portion, the alert detail portion presenting detailed information regarding the issue.

19. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the computer executable instructions are deployable to a client system from a server system at a remote location.

20. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the computer executable instructions are provided by a service provider to a user on an on-demand basis.
